No, I never paid for it and the 1yr trial already expired. Mine is listed under Recommended services for this vehicle'. Plan on trying the iDrive reset after work. If I can't get it to update will call BMW Assist.

One thing to note, BMW Genius said "do not pay for it". I think their systems are still updating and haven't synced all accounts yet, they said there were some 500k vehicles affected with this recent change so it may take some time.

and look under 'Subscribed services' for CarPlay. If you don't see it there and CarPlay is instead listed under 'Recommended services for this vehicle' try to reset iDrive and see if it gets updates.

Resetting iDrive
  • Make sure the car is on, engine running.
  • Reset iDrive by pressing and holding the volume knob for approximately 30s, when the screen goes blank let go. iDrive will then reboot.
If you still don't see CarPlay enabled for life call BMW Assist for further help, 1-888-333-6118. They also said this announcement just happened yesterday, so be patient. It may update on its own.

I just got off both BMW Genuis and BMW Tech support, and both confirmed the announcement yesterday, but told me that to see it on MyConnectedDrive account, I would have to contact BMW Assist since they handle that.

My account had expired on 11/29, so I called BMW Assist, and they told me that they have been getting lots of calls regarding this "blog" but that nothing official was given to them

So I added the 3 month courtesy try (requires a credit card on file, but no charge for 3 months), and hopefully this will get sorted out in the next few days or weeks

I performed the iDrive reset, CarPlay is working (they gave me 1 month free) but under services it is still showing 240 months for 300.00. At least I have a month to get this sorted out. Sounds like a cluster and BMW didn’t give out clear instructions on this change. Multiple people I spoke to said different things.

Will resetting the idrive also update the DME? I have the BM3 tune, so I need to make sure it doesn't update that.

iDrive has nothing to do with the DME.

Can anybody post the Official announcement from BMW? I've seen the rumors on forums and Facebook but no concrete evidence....As we all know hearsay is inadmissible and useless.

I went straight to the free trial offer for three months with payment method on file but the rep was not happy about the idea. She said she could only do a month .

I can see the subscription via I drive . The service isn't working .

I did an idrive reset.

I expect it will be ready tomorrow .

Tried the reset, but couldn't get CarPlay to update. Still shows it as a $300 option in the ConnectedDrive portal as well as in iDrive menu. Suspect we just have to be patient and wait. If it's still not working after a couple of days might have to call BMW Assist, although I bet they're swamped with tons of calls about this very issue.

I feel your pain. I work in another industry but deal with a German software manufacturer sometimes. To say they are inflexible would be an understatment. And BMW is not even a software company even if they pretend they are halfway decent at it now.

BMW M2 Competition iDrive Dashboard removal

NBT-EVO rev R 2019 M2 Comp.

I've had full carplay (activated by Kubax86 using 'feature-installer.app' + supplied code and ENet cable to Macbook pro with Windows 10 bootcamp) in use all week on my commute, works great but got a little stuttery and disconnected a couple of times when moving my phone away from just under the iDrive.

So this morning I installed my £10 wifi antenna bought from Amazon UK.

STEP 1 - Hardest bit was removing the carbon dash/airvent trim as the clips on the left side (UK car) are pretty bloody secure and I was worried about damaging the dash/panel edges/snapping something! As far as I could see there were no youtube videos for this particular car to guide on trim/idrive removal.

A couple of trim prising tools helped plus much more force than I liked, the carbon centre panel eventually popped off with no ill effects! However the edge of the carbon trim is open weave and could definitely get damaged if care not taken!

STEP 2 - Remove radio/ac panel. This requires 2 x torx screws removing then pull evenly around edges to pop off from two lower clips holding bottom half of panel in place.

STEP 3 - Remove iDrive unit. The big silver box with all the electronic gubbins is held at the top by two torx screws. Remove these screws and then the unit just slides forward and out.

STEP 4 - Rotate the idrive unit to reveal back and the WLAN port (purple on my unit) is easily accessible. I plugged in my amazon FAKRA wifi antenna then....

STEP 5 - My antenna had a plastic, paddle like end with a 3M adhesive pad on back. I routed this down to the bottom of dash using touch. There is a flat panel right behind where I was placing the phone in front of the cup holders, the antenna paddle fitted perfectly here and stuck in place, the bundled up excess antenna cable fits in the space above with plenty of room to spare.

STEP 6 - put everything back together!

NOTE: As you can see in the pictures I DID NOT disconnect the battery or ANY of the cables attached to the controlpanels or iDrive unit, there plenty of slack to do the above with cables still connected and engine off. The only part in the way when installing/removing other units is the airvent panel. I just taped it to the back of the idrive screen to keep out of my way. I used towels and wooly hats to cover areas and parts that might get scratched by the exposed clips and metal edges of things.

Probably not recommended by pro's doing with all plugs in as everything is live but I couldn't be arsed doing it the right way! The wifi antenna doesn't really have much energy running through it and not likely to cause issues so I used this to justify my laziness.

CONCLUSION 15 minutes of work and I was testing my new antenna, Carplay works anywhere in the car now and seems to connect to my phone much quicker, well worth doing. As I said above the only tricky bit it getting the airvent panel off as the force needed feels uncomfortable! Rest was easy-peasy!

This looks the same as one I ordered on Amazon only half price...

Damn guys, impatience much..

The press release was just yesterday; give them some time to allow the changes to trickle down to current owners. If they put it in writing, they can't renege now, even if they wanted to.

I would hate to be working in ConnectDrive call center right about now, having to field this one repetitive question over and over. Poor folks..

I was getting ready to pull the trigger on one of those full screen / unlimited car play mods. My major concern was if something happened to the radio or infotainment they would refuse to fix it under warranty.

If I don't have carplay on my 2018 but want it, how does that work now?

My car is put away for winter with the battery disconnected until spring. I wonder if this will be an issue for BMW to update my vehicle.

Maybe the ConnectedDrive account is updated and the car sees it the next time it connects to BMW.

well my experience is all positive and they do provide an "original" version of the firmware in case you want to revert the changes.
but yes, there's some risk

BMW Assist & ConnectedDrive operate under the same banner.
