Would-be carjacker fires gun at man ... but can’t start BMW

Here's to DCT or possibly manual transmission saving the day. My guess is the car had a DCT which confused the robbers.

When the attacker demanded the car owner’s keys and the car owner refused, the man shot once in the air and the man gave up his keys.

The attacker got into the BMW and the owner, who’s from the southwest suburbs, ran off, but the attacker wasn’t able to start it, so he took off in the Challenger, possibly driven by a second person. The BMW M5 can be a manual transmission car.

Loved the fact that no one ever asked to drive my E46 manual for this reason

Few months ago at the BMW dealership they could no longer give me a Saturday appointment as the only BMW Genius (?) who could drive a stick at their shop no longer worked the Saturday shift.

Today, the front desk girl is called in to drive my car to the lift. She grew up in a Nascar family.

If a thief with a gun has never driven a DCT M5 then indeed he would not know how get it going.

Don't see why, it's not rocket science. Even when you first get in them.

I had to be given instructions when I first got in one,not ever owning any BMW, it's not like a normal auto so a thief in a hurry would have a problem don't you think and what if it had a steering lock also, that's what you do when you leave it in a dodgy area.

This is a good enough reason to fit a 'ghost'
immobiliser.

You can give up your key without a fight then
do a Michael Johnson.
Car will still be where you parked it when the
cops arrive.

I came from a 530D and got in the M5 and then sat there a few mins until I figured it out as well

I wouldn't drive it proper when I purchased it until I studied the handbook in it's entirety, last thing to do was to connect the blue tooth.
