If BMW want to keep the rwd m2 in the 60k range they'll probably just put in a tuned version of the high output b58 in the z4.

I think if they want to move the m2 rwd more upmarket it'll be 70k base with a s58 motor.

if BMW sells the s58 to toyota for the high output supra..the m2 will definitly get it.
There will be no M2GC ‼️

Unless of course the 2023 M2 follows in the footsteps of the new 3 series and gets bigger and heavier and then only offered with a ZF8. In this case the M2C is a big time keeper.
You just know it will get porkie-er. More HP to overcome it. 😔
Even more fat than the M2 Chubby?

No thanks!

I believe the next m2 will get a b58 with the competition model getting a higher output b58 with slightly more power than the s55 in m2c. The next gen CS will get the s58 to help 'justify' the ridiculous price jump to the next CS.

Transmission? Is DCT dead?
DCT is dead.

I think b58 m2 sales will be low or need to be heavily discounted.

BMW better seriously up their game.

Look what Mercedes is doing to up theirs.

2020 Mercedes-AMG CLA45 has 382 hp and a rear-wheel-drive drift mode.

I think the next M2 will have the S58. Now that I’ve had a taste of the M2 with the S55 I don’t think I can go back to the regular series motors. Don’t want to offend anyone here, but to me the only benefit of the N55 over the S55 is the sound. The original M2 is a fantastic car, but I just think the S55 kicks up one notch.

How is that possible with a transversely mounted engine, the "drift mode" might just be similar to the one in focus rs. You have to send at least 50% of the power to the front wheels.

Transfer case can send power wherever needed.

They can program it to have 100% power go to the rear.

I think this is only on the AMG 45 S Models, from what I read.

i think if the economy holds up...we'll see a 2 series gran coup rs3 competitior.

i dont think it would cost BMW much in terms of building one...bigger turbo, bigger brakes and stiffer suspension with maybe some kind of wide body and add some gloss carbon fiber interior bits and boom charge 60-70k...lol.

i couldnt find any drive train pics...some people are theorizing that there using a 90 degree transfer case from the front axles and connectining to a 90 degree power transfer coupling to the rear wheels.

if it turns out to be true..that is going to be some horrible drive train lost in rwd mode.

I wouldn't mind a b58 - better sound, cheaper to maintain and the stock internals have already been shown to handle huge increases in power from aftermarket mods very easily.

That being said, the s58 will clearly be on another level, but to me the difference isn't that vast in terms in value vs. performance.

The S55 has shown HUGE gains with a tune and very few aftermarket parts... It's not a proper M car if it doesn't have an S motor in it, no? People are riding the Supra train too hard. Before anyone gets all defensive about how the B58 is in actual BMWs, it had no where the following before the Supra was dropped.

There have been numerous threads about M cars that have engines that don’t start with an S. The 1M and M2 are both proper M cars.

The 1M was the most fun to drive.

Size hp it was nearly perfect. Only the weght could be lighter.

1m coupe with carbon roof and hood in a modern new jacket would be my perfect M car. No 400 plus hp is needed if the weight is comming down!

A new m2 bigger heavier and more hp. No i am not looking for that. If i wanted an m3/m4 i would have bought that.

M2 must be an agile car for fun in cornering. My m2 comp has lost appeal to me. To big to heavy. To long wheelbase!

We will see what a new m2 brings. If it gets bigger and heavier i not buying! Maybe buy a secondhand 1m then or a GT4

The M3 is rumored to have an MT version but with a detuned motor for purists. Whether it will be called M3 pure is unknown but this rumor was coming straight from the M division boss.
