I'm just echoing what others have said... that I've never experienced wheel hop before. And I've launched the car, done donuts, and burnouts many many times on both OEM suspension and KW V3 plus Dinan sway bars with OEM conti 3s and wider Conti 5Ps.

Maybe your toe adjustment is loose or needs an alignment. Or maybe you are mistaking traction control for wheel hop?

Wheel hop is almost always a sign of poor bushings... are you sure you don't have anything damaged? This car has solid bushings so technically thats impossible... it sounds like something may be broken.

You might be onto something with the toe. I know mine is off, I will test again after I get it fixed.

We don't have all solid bushings. Only the subframe is solidly mounted. Suspension arms and diff is rubber bushing. And it's hard to believe bushings on a 2018 would be bad already.

I need an oil change at the end of the month, I'll have it checked then. I bought the car with 9,400 miles on it and it just had new tires and an alignment, but checking it can't hurt.

And this M2, I mean, it's terrible, no? I mean, it's not even fun. You're either at 10/10th's (which I'll never be) or you're hopping. Why has BMW not fixed this issue?? I mean, I can't even have a LITTLE fun in the rain.

What am I Missing?
Its called aftermarket rear toe and trailing links. Problem solved. Solid as a rock.

I never experience wheel hop. I always drive with the car in standard (DSC on) mode unless I'm on the track, in which case I'm not doing burnouts and silly stuff like that.

I believe that if you drive the car as designed, which is with DSC on, you will not experience wheel hop. That goes to the "why doesn't BMW fix this?" because the car works as designed. When you start doing silly stuff (burnouts) that the car was not specifically designed to do (i.e it's not a Hellcat) then I don't think it's fair to complain.

BMWs are designed to maximize handling and traction, not tire smoke.

Could not disagree more. Bullshit argument.

The car is meant to be driven in DSC off around the track. Wheel hop is a suspension setup problem. I get it with MPSS tires whenever I decide to light them up.

And if an American car can do a burnout why wouldn’t the “ultimate driving machine”. You’re supposed to be able to drift an M2. To drift you need significant amount of wheel spin. TCS and DSC don’t allow that.

Since when are BMW M cars not about hooliganism??

i've had wheel hop on over powered fwd drive cars i've driven. the stock m2...will spin, but no wheel up, i'm on michelin pss. I still think the stock tire size is undersized for the car, but i agree with others switch to michelin ps4's or pss. Tires make a huge difference even though its a boring subject to talk about.

Had wheel hop and rear chatter when I got the car new.

Change suspension to Ohlins R&T.
Change shitty Contis to MPS4S.

No more hop or chatter. Now...just butter.

Interesting, in my month of ownership i've been impressed with how little wheelhop the car has.

Not that it has none, yesterday i floored it in first gear and got pretty nasty wheel hop instead of peeling out nice and smooth. But the ground was also wet here.

and in my 14 years of driving a very wheel hop prone car (350Z) in Seattle i can tell you guys that wet ground makes wheel hop much worse. It was impossible to do much of a burnout with that car in any sort of damp conditions without getting awful wheel hop. The same was true for my friend's 2006 GTO. Horrible wheel hop in the wet. The only solution for either car was to crank that wheel and turn your burnout into a drift. No wheel hop when you're drifting! (but also, hopefully you planned to do your burnout in an open parking lot or something...)

I'm pretty sure it's DSC, with DSC mode on or even USDM MDM the m2 for me will pull power when I try to slide it making that jerky feeling, which is nothing compared to a solid rear axle mustang on launch.

With DSC off or with gts MDM (slightly better than usdm mdm but issue is there) the whole jerkiness of power being cut is gone.

FD RX7 stock: no traction control
MR2: traction control was a jdm option only, I do believe it did make it onto the usdm versions but only late into production as an option only.
S2000: no traction control
Sti: you said smoothly in the rain, if it was anything like mine (GC8, Hawkeye, 09 gr, and a '16) those things understeer like crazy and never slid smoothly unless there was snow, even with the diff set to the rear. So you probably had crap tires.

Those cars probably slid easily since the rear wheel width and wheel base is alot smaller than the m2 making traction less, they were also alot lighter too.

Well then, so much for a rational, mature discussion.

Ok, sorry for offending you but I do not accept the premise that M cars are designed to be driven with the nannies on.

It's not about traction control, I have it all off. And my tires were fantastic on the STi, Michelin Pilot Sports. Smooth as butter.

My Exige breaks away so smoothly you'd think that's what it was designed to do. And I'm a wheel/tire whore, I've had all manner of tires on the thing, A005 slicks, A048's, R888's, 71R's, AD08R's, and NT01's.

I full-on believe it's a design flaw with the BMW, reading all the posts about it, but I'm willing to reserve judgement until after I get a different set of tires.

Funny, I noticed this yesterday in wet conditions and DSC mode off. Car wheel hopped and felt like the rear end was gonna snap. Bouncing all over the place.

Conti's @ 17k miles. Stock suspension.

If you guys are strong enough in your convictions and really believe it's not actually incapable rubbers causing or contributing to this issue, there was a thread in the M2C section in which the OP noticed one of the polyurethane err mounts for the rear diff was excluded, "possible" cause for this wheel hop complaint.

Weird, my car breaks free just fine. Maybe it is the bushings idk.

It wasn't excluded by accident. Our cars only come with one. Most cars only have one.

If it is a bushing issue maybe these will help solve them.

I don't doubt you, it just seems odd they are an orifice engineered for two bushings yet they only utilized one..

Not saying this is the root off of the problem but it's something to consider if we're spitballing ideas to help narrow down this "issue."
