I'd stick to msrp. As you mentioned, through attrition you're now #1, guaranteed, more attrition to follow especially if they tell people they want over msrp. Remember there is no guarantee that the dealer will get #2, 3, 4 or 5 in line to pay above msrp as well.

If they insist on selling it above msrp, politely inform them that you'd like to remain #1 on there list until there is no one willing to pay above msrp. I have a feeling that you'll win this chicken duel fairly quickly.

absolutely not. one dealer in LA told me they were asking for 10k to maybe 15k over sticker for one.

and the same dealer tried to sell me a m4 for 4k off sticker.....

so i was like what kind of idiot would buy a M2.... and they were like , well some people just really want it.

in LA i have no doubt that some chinese oligarh's son living in arcadia as a parachute kid will pay the $10k markup to get the first one . but after that first batch of people who really dont care what the price is, i can't see it being over msrp.

why pay $10k over when there M3/M4 is there for a discount. i mean sure i like the smaller size, but i'm not crazy

The depreciation on a new car is bad enough. No need to add to it.

In a #1 position?

Does anyone believe they'll have an m2 for msrp in the first shipment in April/May?

I totally get not paying the premium, but my sense, at least in CA, is that folks getting the first several cars will be paying a premium.

#1 and #2 . I believe it because it's in writing but I'm hedging my bet just in case someone trys to throw money at them to get it first. I bought my m3 from one of them so I trust their word.I have no info when the car will get here since the dealer allocations aren't out yet. But I did get confirmation on the leaked options list being accurate.

Also look into buying a car at a dealer in a dif state or location. I only hear these rumors in CA. It doesnt matter where you buy u still can service it at any dealership.

My dealer is giving me the run around regarding my spot on the list. I suspect a market adjustment is what he is aiming at. I am willing to pay MSRP but not one penny more. I will have an M2 and want one bad, I would love to have one of the early cars also and I can afford to pay a premium but I believe in the concept of fairness. I won't be party to a transaction I don't see as fair. Dealers who try to take advantage of this stuff really irritate me, there is plenty of profit selling cars at invoice much less MSRP marking above MSRP is robbery.

For the people saying they "got it in writing", what does that mean? Can someone post a pic of what the dealer gave them? I find it sort of hard to believe a dealer would do anything remotely binding. "Yeah sure MSRP whatever you say" signed "sales schmuck" on a napkin wont count. And in any "hot" market (NY, CA, etc) losing the business (pretty much the worst threat) of any one customer means jack shit.

I expect 90+% of the initial allocation *will* be going for over markup. The MSRP is just way too low and way too close to the ridiculous MSRP of a loaded M235i (which instantly became dramatically overpriced based on M2 pricing)

While I am not in CA, I have a buyer's order for the #1 allocation stating MSRP. If I didn't have a lease expiring around the time the car will be delivered, I would be waiting for the dealers to drop below MSRP.

seems like BMW should have priced the car higher, its just the principal behind it that would stop me from paying above MSRP but if the car was priced a few K higher i would probably still shell out knowing bmw im sure there was a method to their madness

Backed away from one dealer that wanted US MSRP for ED. I think after 1 year the prices will normalize like the m3 did.

I'm really glad they priced it where they did. I feel really bad for the 235 buyers that didn't wait.

Paying 5-10k of markup (market adjustment) is beyond my understanding. One can get M3 or even M4 with great discounts and yet, better performance.

Look is subjective, so I am not going there.

MSRP + $500 maybe the max one would want to pay to get one the first, but not more than that for me.

You know they changed the discount percentage? Its only 5% now. Not sure if 5% would scare me off also take into consideration of the warranty change for 17.

I'll pay like 1,000 over MSRP if they can get me one before the summer.

Else...Meh.

Yeah, but at that point I'd ED a M3? I guess the weight difference size difference isn't enough to prevent cross-shopping, at least for me.

The warranty change I get but I don't think 2% is the end of the world. Unless you were already on the edge.

Yeah, I have a M235. I wish I could get the flared fenders and bigger wheels/more rubber. Otherwise there isn't much in it for me. The M2 is not that much more powerful. I would loose color choices, sunroof and adaptive suspension. The M2 is a great value though.

Exactly !

I've placed an order December 28th and I gave a $2,500 deposit and I will not pay a penny more than what it is written on my order ! If BMW ask more, I'll cancel my order.
