Trouble downshifting into 2nd

During enthusiastic road driving, I sometimes have difficulty downshifting into 2nd gear. I fully depress the clutch, well below the ~60 mph redline, but can't engage 2nd gear. It does rev match as I barely enter 2nd's gate. The car has 4000 miles on the clock.

Again, this occurs only sometimes during aggressive driving. Thoughts?

No offense, but the most probable explanation is that you are either not pushing in the clutch all the way, or you are applying force in a direction other than left and rearward on the shifter.

None taken but, I've certainly applied both of those obvious actions.

If you trust someone enough to let them drive it, see what they think. Otherwise take it to the dealership and let them check it out

Do you have the BMS clutch stop installed? Maybe too thick?

That crossed my mind but again, under normal driving, downshifting into 2nd is no problem.

I don't have this problem, but I do notice that this shift is the most difficult to time and smooth out of all the shifts in this car...

Could it be the tune interfering with a car safety system? (100% unsubstantiated idea)

More guessing....but maybe during heavy driving everything is hot and your clearances shrink up a little. Maybe that's enough to make the BMS stop too much.....once again, just guessing.

It's at least an easy thing to change to see if it helps.

I discovered the problem. I'm a complete idiot...

I was pulling too far left to engage 2nd. Extreme left (and up) is the safety feature to engage reverse. This is my first manual BMW. All my others were 5MT where reverse was directly below 5th on the gate pattern.
