Press button - everything goes off.
Press button again - sensors and sensor display comes on, no camera ( I have seen the same in other non BMW cars)

Hope that makes sense
Would that mean the camera is only back on when you put in reverse again or use idrive? I expected that button turns on/off everything.

Correct, camera only comes on if reverse is selected. The button only turns on the sensors, not the camera. I've seen the same behavior in non-BMW cars. There is a version of the console module with a camera button, maybe that would behave differently.

Had it confirmed by my dealer that this mod will only work on cars that have the Back Up installed. This is a optional extra I didn't tick on my vehicle so my module upgrade doesn't work.
Dealer won't take the module back either so I'm going to sell it in the classifieds.

Your dealer is in no position to confirm such a thing that's not intended by BMW.

They are just like us, more likely to be much less knowledgeable than the most knowledgeable of us, on this matter. They merely see how things turn out and tell you that's the way it should be.

I know what you are saying and he's not really my dealer. He manages "parts" at a major BMW chain in the UK. He's looked through the schematics, wiring and installation diagrams of the module and I've fitted it, and it doesn't work, plus there's nothing that can go/or be done wrong in terms of installation so it's safe to say it doesn't work with cars without the back up camera.
We will only know 100% sure when someone else without the camera tries it.

Here a few pictures to help...
Does it not seem like there is a 4th button, above the P off button?

Anyone know what it does?

So far the most left and most right front sensors are not working properly. They show 8 of 10 red lines. Maybe we have choosed not the best position. We have to reposition them. This is an R&D session at all, i am happy to test different scenarios.

I think the outer sensors are too close to air courtain.

Maybe in this zone? (I dont know if its possible or there are something in the rear of bumper):

See attached image - We connected the M2 into ISTA/P and there is
an option for RETROFIT, PARK DISTANCE CONTROL, FRONT.
(These retrofit options available via ISTA/P are coming from 2 series model option.)
Thanks for all the helpful information in this thread.

A quick question, you mentioned coding could be done in ISTA/P (retrofit option) or that it could be coded manually.

What do you mean by "manually"...? Using E-Sys to change a flag?

FYI the "fourth button" with the pic of a camera on it is for the optional front side cameras (not to be confused with the surround view cameras under the wing mirrors). I have this option on my F30. Look closely at my avatar and you can see one just behind the orange reflector on my front bumper.

Super interested in this tread. Have done this sort of thing before on MINI's. they use the same system. I have questions for the OP.
Why did you only install 1 set of sensors? Most cars have 2 sets - the outside corners being the most important.
When you programed the sensors did it not ask you where the 2nd set were?
Here is the setup on an f32...

I'm looking for an update as well.

Seeing that the M2C gets the front sensors from the factory, I just might try this retrofit.

What additional wires were needed to connect the front sensors? And where do they connect to?

I have stopped this retrofit project as M2CP will arrive during this year and will have front pdc.

If i relocate two front sensors, it should work fine, but i will not relocate them as i will sell my M2 and get back to the original front bumper without PDC.

Regards, Laszlo

If you are using the proper module for front and rear pdc and the proper wires than you need the code the car and it should be work fine.

I think for the proper FRONT PDC Retrofit for M2 and M2 LCI you need the following:

- proper module
- wiring
- front bumper and maybe other related parts from M2 Competition
- front PDC from M2 Competition
- proper coding

This one thing that I wish the M2 had, front PDC. Or a front camera would be even better. I'm always worried about parking to close and hitting the front bumper. One of the reasons I havent bought a front lip for the car yet.
