Final pics from my July 4th weekend road trip in the X1

I kept it closer to home the latter part of the holiday weekend, but still went out exploring some less traveled back roads of the bay area.

Saturday there wasn't much to take photos of, too much traffic near the beach I was at.
I did get to follow a lime green Geo Metro through the new Devils Slide bypass on Hwy 1 between Pacifica and Half Moon Bay. Before this, the road would routinely slide into the ocean, hence the name.

Got to the beach but didn't stay long. Too many knuckleheads, which I should have expected on a holiday weekend. I must say the fog was welcome after the heat the previous few days.

The next day I took a drive along Calaveras Road, which will mean nothing to most people that don't live around here, but it is a road that skirts the hills around the east and south bay area, starting near Sonol and ending in Milpitas.

Always a good sign!

This is what most of the area where I live looks like all summer

The white domes in the distance are the James Lick Observatory on top of Mount Hamilton, which is another drive for another day!

You feel like your miles away from anything up here, and then before you know it, you drop right back into the heart of Silicon Valley

Hope everyone enjoyed my road trip weekend pics. I sure had fun with the X1 and my cameras and can't wait to get out and do it again.

You could also have gone to the Sunol regional wilderness, not a bad park. If you haven't been up to Lick, I hope you don't get carsick. Yikes! There has to be a few hundred turns if you go up from Fremont.
Nice pics.

Thanks guys! I thought no one had seen that post!

Weebl, I have been up to Lick a bunch of times. I grew up in Cupertino and we used to go get snow from there and bring it down to the quad in my high school days

Later in life I have also done the whole way from Fremont to I-5 at Patterson on my VFR. It is a tight road, especially with the Spandex crowd that populates it these days.

I have not been to the Sunol Regional Wilderness yet, but pretty soon I will be a lot more mobile on trails and plan to explore much further. I am a member of East Bay Regional Parks, and try to get out as much as possible with a camera!

I'd try Little Yosemite in the Spring with the better runoff and your ND. Some hawks around there also. It is a uphill hike though and can be toasty.
The one time I went to Lick was in a 740i and my son almost decided to decorate the interior before I stopped.

Doh! Yeah kids and curvy roads...

Yosemite is out, for a different reason, but yes it is always nicer in spring, although winter is cool too. I'm heading up to Oregon wine country and then the Columbia River gorge for a few days. Hopefully will get some good shots. Not taking the X, so no cool car pics this time around, but such is life.
