Suvneer (GTS Hood)

So we finally had an opportunity to unpack the aluminum GTS hood today purchased directly from Suvneer. Here are a few details in case anyone needs to know things like box dimensions.

Price paid (including shipping): $898.00
Purchased from: suvneer.com
Purchased on: May 21st
Shipper: R+L Carriers
Freight weight: 89 lbs
Shipped on: May 22nd
Arrived (you must schedule a delivery date): May 29th
Box dimensions: 58" 3/4 width, 60" height, 8" depth.

[1] Packaging:
The hood was packed exceptionally well. The box is ships in an upright position, strapped to a small pallet (have a utility knife ready when they deliver it). The box is perfect for re-packing the OEM hood and storing it away. I believe the photos will answer any further questions but feel free to ask.

[2] Finish:
The primer coat is good and if you run hand over the finish you can feel an occasional raised areas (high point). This will be fine as we expect the paint shop to do any all prep work needed to turn out a proper finish. The underside of the hood is pretty much the same. There are adhesive spots (reference photos) present that aren't found on the OEM hood. I can't speak to how these will be handled by the paint shop so I'll post back once we've had an opportunity to speak with them.

[3] Micro dents:
Yes, there were 1 or 2. I took a photo and circled the area in yellow. It's very small and should pose no issues to the body shop. These absolutely did NOT occur during shipment as the box and internal packaging was pristine.

[4] Preparation before fitment:
On the drivers side, you will want to disengage the gas shock. Doing so will alleviate stress (flex) of the hood. After we opened and closed the hood a few times it was just best to remove it as it made us a bit uneasy.

[5] Fitment:
This is difficult to say entirely. We took careful measurements of the stock hood and it was not uniform (distance) front and side to side. I'll share these measurements if people are curious (3 points on each side and front). When we fit the GTS hood, it wasn't our goal to dial it in exactly. Basically, we needed to know if we were wasting our time and money. The process of removal and replacement was relatively simple. However, adjustments took some time and we only adjusted it to see how close we could get it by eye. I believe we'd be very happy with the result IF we could somehow adjust the drivers side height. To explain, the entire length of the hood feels a touch too high and if you place your hand and carefully press down it looks perfect. Perhaps someone here can give some assistance. At this point, I'll let the photos speak for themselves. Again, we spent about an hour adjusting by eye until we were semi-satisfied. The final product will be dialed in using a proper tool. Also note we did NOT install the latches so the hood might seem a bit high in the front.

[6] Weight:
I don't have exact numbers but we do plan on weighing it using a digital scale. The stock hood feels roughly 1.5x heavier than the GTS hood.

[7] Final thoughts:
We debated between carbon fiber and this aluminum hood. We were ultimately concerned that CF would exhibit issues over time (heat etc.) but we might be trading that concern with the possibility that the aluminum hood may incur dents far easier than the OEM hood (less dense material). The hood looks very nice and definitely brings an aggressive appearance to the overall look.

Update: 05.31
The BMW carbon fiber hood (5k) has some good information on how to further adjust the hinges and hood. They mention a replacement lift springs ($15.98 ea.)due to the weight reduction of the hood as well as hood struts ($126.92 ea.) but these look like the same parts based on Real OEM.

https://rparts-sites.s3.amazonaws.co...ll%20instr.pdf

Update: 06.04
So it seems our stock gas hood struts are part number 51-23-7-239-233. BMW recommends for their CF hood, part number 51-23-8-066-092. For those wanting to run two hood struts instead of one, this might be the solution, albeit an expensive solution.

Couple of things we need to check as I'm sure this question will come up. Will the Carbon Fiber brace clear the hood ? We have the brace currently off the vehicle as we recently took the car into the dealership for a matter that required us to remove all the performance parts (warranty work).

Looks like the Carbon Fiber brace fits (photo added above). For clarity, the hood latches are not installed but the hood closes no different than it did before.

This week we're looking for a paint shop that we can trust do the work properly. Will update this thread once we have more info.

Following along. Beautiful hood - fitment looks fairly solid as well. Will wait for painted shots for final judgement

Looks like Some of the lines don’t line up... need to adjust it upwards? From the part near the motors to the parts near the light? Feels like the front 2 fenders need to be adjusted that’s about it. Or have you already adjusted it?

I also did the GTS Hood from Suvneer and when we took it out and lined it up it needed a lot of adjustments to start. Then we looked closer and there was a lot of work needed to meet the BMW Standards for fitment and overall look. Once all of that was done, I went back to them and explained what I needed to do to make it right and was refunded the difference. Suvneer backs there products and will help where that can. I did a full color match long beach blue and it looks great. Apex PPF and ceramic coated it too.

Can you go into more details as to "what was done to meet the BMW Standards for fitment and overall look" ? What adjustments were made?

Do you have any pictures of the hood fitted?

Yes, as others have requested. Please elaborate. In this post I provided a PDF link to BMW's $5k hood and the process to adjust for fitment. Was this the process performed ?

Thanks in advance ..

The angle of the photos throw it off slightly. The gap leading towards the hinges look pretty good (both sides) but the the front fenders and bumper need to come in just a tiny bit more to even things out. All adjustments were performed with just the 4 bolts holding the hood. Also note that the latche are not installed (the hood is just laying there). This will pull the hood down a bit more. I'm pretty confident that once all is said and done, the fitment will be spot on.

Can you post pics of your car with the color matched hood? I'm sure there's a ton of people along with myself that would love to see how it looks. Thanks!
