Charge pipe finally blew. DIY EVO and AA.
I ordered a Wagner EVOII and an AA charge pipe. Both from X-PH. Can't say enough good words for Mike. Called on a Tuesday, parts arrived on Thursday. The quality of both items is superior.
Removal: Dropping the OEM IC is very simple. Remove pan, remove hose clips. Remove holding bolts and it literally falls out. The CP is an other matter. Removing the MAF and so on not an issue. Taking the CP out completely is an exercise in frustration. No amount of coaxing would make it come out the top. Finally figured out that pushing and having someone guide it from the bottom was the answer. Also, removing the air box provides a lot more room to maneuver. I highly recommend that since it is so easy to do. Installation: CP comes in two pieces. I installed upper section with coupling tight only to discover that can't get to the hose clamp to tighten the bottom section. The split is right below the alternator. So. Assembled the top section and secured in place. Secured coupler to lower section (hose clamp tightened) and other hose clamp loosely attached. Make sure you have hose clamp bolt facing driver side. Otherwise can't reach. Had my son push the lower section while a guided into place. Do not tighten clamp at this time. IC was only difficult because of weight. Used floor jack to guide into place. Did not like the studs that Wagner supplied so purchased new ones that fit. It does take some finesse to get the IC past the plastic piece. A two man job for sure. Securing CP and AIR pipes to IC was easy. Now it's time to tighten hose clamp. Believe it or not that was the most frustrating part. Very little room to maneuver a hand and a wrench. I recommend that you buy a flexible socket extension prior to this. I was finally able to work my arm with a 1/4" drive and tighten. Rather painful. All that said it took about 3 hours from jacking car up to jacking car down. Every thing worked great. The motor does seem to pull harder and smoother. |

...are you talking about the OEM charge pipe? I'm just wondering if you were running Stage 2 with the OEM pipe?

I installed my EvoII Comp a couple of weeks ago and accidentally re-used the oem torx screws (wasn't thinking and had forgotten about the Wagner bits). Have searched the net but couldn't find info on size of the oem screw, it may be good enough for the extra weight of the Wagner but for peace of mind I'll change them. |

I just bought some self tapping torx the same size as the Wagner bits. Same as OEM but slightly larger. |

I just had 2 weeks driving on stock tune with a Wagner EvoII Comp / VRSF CP (& Fabspeed sport cat which I've had for 2yrs) and didn't really notice any extra turbo lag. That included a track day, I have 6MT and was getting the same main straight top speed (210) as previous outings (except hot summer days when it would struggle a little). Just got a BM3 custom tune

Interesting that you found that the stock charge pipe HAD to come out the bottom. I had the opposite diagnosis. It HAD to come out the top. And it did.

Question, is there any companies that makes an almost all silicone charge pipe for the N55, where it's still ridged but not made out of aluminum? |
