Yes only going slow and cornering. Up and moving it went away.
I brought mine in today and was able to reproduce the sound for the head tech. He heard it and agreed "wow that really does sound like a can crunching!" He immediately ruled out the diff saying the problem with the diffs over summer didnt sound like this. What he told me was I had small small rocks in the rear brake ducts area. Told me they will lodge against the shields and rub against things and sound all crazy. They cleaned everything out and installed mesh guards. Picked it up and couldn't reproduce the noise. Drove 50 miles, slow turns nothing out the back. So I will keep trying and see if this was in fact the issue. Seems so though, I am optimistic it was. |

My dealer said they can't do anything unless they hear from either a BMW service rep or another dealer about what is being done about this noise. Can you give us (me) the name of your dealer so mine can contact them (please)?

Thanks. That metallic 'a-hee' noise @ 00:06 is indeed the soda can crunch noise.
Added the link to both your dashcam videos to the first post of this thread.

Colder and very wet night tonight. Roads are very messy with little rocks, etc. Must have heard the 'soda can crunch' noise about 8 times in 5 minutes where I usually only hear it maybe once every week, leading me to believe it is something lodging into the brakes. I do however hear it more frequently when I turn but I have heard it while driving straight.

I went through some dirty streets today and didnt get it this time. Looks like whatever mesh covers my dealer installed is working. Cars a freaking blast otherwise. Perfect every day sports car. No one makes a better one for the money. |

I watched the video several times and this noise is terrible. I'm already cautious about spending $61K (DCT, Exec. package, tax) on a N55 car and now this noise which would surely drive me crazy. I feel for you guys and hope it gets resolved soon.

Is this a correct summary of the diff issues?
1) BMW recognized a problem and issued a fix for certian cars 2) Some people are still having issues and we have no word on what it is or how it will be fixed (is #2 the same people from #1? Or different people?) 3) Most people are fine and experience no noises at all |

It may not be the diff as you say but it's something other than stones imo. |

I noticed this happen several times today while I was driving in an area with lots of small rocks on the street. Not sure what to think now. It might be stones and the dust shields after all.
Further evidence, I noticed it was distinctly louder on the passenger side and then later on it was louder on the driver's side. |

Had the brake disc tin cover issue too, I thought that it was a loose heat shield as it was a very tinny sound, I pushed the tin plate back to release any stones. Last edited by carlos808; 11-09-2016 at 06:09 AM.. Reason: add image |

After 2,000 miles of driving, I'm starting to suspect that the "rocks in the brake area" theory is correct (at least for my 2017 model, week 38 build).
I get the crunch noise pretty frequently in my parking lot at work, where the asphalt is crumbling and in little pieces. |

Mine is going in on the 7th so I can easily ask my dealer to do this to solve the issue. They maybe even can make a bulletin about it and share it across the world. Perhaps we can ask any dealer to do this so that it helps the community! MR |
