Breaks squeak at 120 miles. Any suggestions?
Will this go away as I drive more?
It squeaks at the beginning of breaking and at the very end. Any easy remedies or solutions? Car has 120 miles. Thank you in advance |

Mine squeaked since new. With over 1k miles now, they still squeak occasionally, despite bedding them in properly. It's the nature of the beast.

I have a 2019 with about 8300 miles. The brake squeak seems to come and go. It may be my imagination, but when I wash the car and really hose down the wheels with all the brake dust, the squeak disappears. I would be interested if others have noticed the same.

Totally normal. Just the nature of big brakes. Porsche has an excellent video explaining why this is.

My 2020 M2C has more than 9k miles. It still squeaks when about to stop during periods of mostly city driving. When I go into a long drive they calm down for a bit.
The BMW recommendation of doing 3 stops from 50 mph has worked in the past, but it's honestly not very practical in the city. After a while I just got used to the noise and sometimes it even makes me happy, contrary to the embarrassment it caused initially. Not that you should conform. Something you could try is to ask for different pads at BMW and tell us if that worked. |

What if anything is recommended bed in procedure for the stock brakes when picking up a new M2C? I’m used to bedding in new brakes when I get pads down the line but now that I think about it, I can’t say I’ve ever actively thought about bedding in the OEM pads when the car is NEW.

Bedding down these brakes won't really help long term. I've done it. The squeaking will disappear for a little while, only to pop back up again and again. Brake squeal is just the norm now.. almost like white noise that I tune out automatically. The sooner you just learn to live with it, the sooner you can appreciate everything else about the car.

I actually like the squeaking brakes. It gives off a cool factor and the attention I desire without really doing anything crazy. Some people may even come to the conclusion that I'm a racecar driver. Isn't that awesome?!

This thread is helpful and I also think temperature is a huge factor. My car is at 3,600 miles and here in colder temp in the northeast, I first heard it about a month or two ago. I have also done a few 40-0 braking, it does not seem to help too much. We shall see what happens in the spring/summer.
It does get annoying driving at slow speeds in two when everyone is already sitting outside and you have this high pitched squeak. at first I thought people were turning their heads to admire my car 😉🥴

Been wondering about this, too. Just broke 900 miles and my brakes squeak intermittently. Has been driving my crazy.
Glad it just a high performance thing. |

Idk anymore guys, the squeaking seem to get worse now and I have had plenty of miles on it. May take it to the dealer in a few weeks and see what is going on. I think someone previously posted why we have squeaky brakes in a Porsche vid. Seems to
Me it all depends on the vibration once the calipers clamp down on the disks. I wonder if there has been some pressure changes in how it is clamped when all this started getting "worse".

The squeaking brakes get worse in the winter time as the temperature drops.. mine are squeaking extra loud and obnoxiously.. so, don't feel like you're the only one 😉

I am using Ferodo DS2500 pads, which are quiet when cold, but noisy when hot. After an afternoon at the track, they do get quieter until I've driven about 100 miles with regular street driving. |

In the 2021 U.S. owner's manual page 196: "Correct braking To prevent functional noises, it is expedient to apply the brakes hard a few times in regular intervals. Ensure that the traffic situation permits the brake operations. With moisture on the brake discs, the brake system may be operated dry to prevent noise."

Bedding in your pads and discs is the best way to reduce pad squeal. As noted by others above though, over time the pad layer wears off the disc, and the process must be repeated. We produced the videos below to show the process.
