Engine and exhaust noise can only be so loud and comply with regulations.

BMW, MB, Audi, etc. lose customers over road noise, wind noise, etc. I bet 90% of people would not know ASD existed if they weren't told ahead of time.

Soon there won't be any real noise but a whine with electric motors. Actually, that's one of the things I like most about Teslas. You can really hear the tires work.

Honestly, if I hadn't read about it a few years ago, I would have had zero idea.

I know there's a great deal of hate for ASD, but I absolutely understand why the car companies do it. As you said, they would lose customers if they didn't do it.

It would be like going to the grocery store to pick up some salmon and finding this slab of white fish sitting there behind the case. You say, "Hey, I'm looking for salmon." The fish monger says, "Yeah, buddy. That's the salmon." To which you respond, "That's white. Salmon is supposed to be pink." To which he says, "Nah, farm raised salmon don't eat krill, which is where salmon traditionally get their pink color from. You want the fish or not, buddy?" You walk away. Or... the fish monger could just feed the farm raised salmon fake pink feed and the salmon turns pink, even though it's fake! Nobody knows, nobody really cares... except the organic, vegan, dreadlocked, tattooed, social justice warrior who then gets really angry and rails against the evil fish monger for creating this fake pink color in his fish!!!

You see what I did there? We're the organic, vegan, dreadlocked, tattooed, social justice warrior weirdos in this analogy.

So why would someone use the bypass ASD harness over coding ASD off?

Seems like you can just turn off ASD with a press of a button on Bimmerlink app.

The claim at one point was that using a physical bypass provided better audio quality over coding off the obnoxious feature. AFAIK this objectively provable claim remains unproven and is probably out of date. As BMW continually updates the 2-series wiring, amps and head unit, any comparison test would need to include production date.

Simple! My M2 (pre facelift) had annoying beep tone in the HK speakers. I could easily here a tone that sounded as if the ASD module was not properly "grounded" or whatever you call that.

It was created by the power input of the ASD module. Bypassing the module completely made sure that the annoying tone was removed and I did not hear it anymore.

I am not sure how this works in facelift M2's or the new M2C, but I have the cable and I will bypass the module again. Easy work! 30 min done.

Has anybody tried coding ASD off in an M2C (or M2) with the base audio system (in my country you can choose not to have the HiFi -base audio in the US?- or Harman Kardon options)?
The reason I ask is that it seems the only amp my audio system will have (according to the schematics) is the one used (just?) for the ASD function (added to the signal path with the HiFi or HK amp)...
I’m afraid that if I do it (code ASD off) I’ll be left with no sound at all... or maybe, just maybe... I won't have to deal with ASD to start with , since the ASD amp feeds its er... soundtrack to the audio amp and is supposed to be volume independent (can you imagine if I was to increase the volume and also get higher ASD er... fake engine noise through the loudspeakers?)

I know coding via Bimmercode should be easily reversible but still would like to know if anybody has successfully done it (no ASD with the base audio system)... If not, count me in as guinea pig!

You dont need that crap. Just get an ENET cable and code it off. So easy with cheat codes.

Its just not true considering the car sounds better with it turned off. And to me the S55 with exhaust is louder than an S65.

I cant believe people cant hear the engine/exhaust when ASD is bypassed/turned off. First, when ASD is on, youre not hearing the engine/exhaust in the first place. Second, with it off on my original M2, to me, its loud loud loud anyway, even with stock exhaust. Preferring fake noise to the natural roar of the engine is like preferring to eat white salmon that has been painted pink (idea stolen from a post above)

I coded off ASD on my M2 and couldn't believe how much better the car and audio system sounded to my ears.

On my OG M2 i tried both the cable and turning it off with bimmer link. The net result was the same much less noise but no difference they both work the same .On my M2C i just turned it off with BL along with closing the exhaust. I'm way to old for all the noise just give me the performance and skip the foreplay..carl

But hold on Carl...did you not just confess that the hearing in your left ear is not what it's supposed to be in a recent post?? How can we take you serious when it comes to hearing an audible difference??
