It's great to have another tuning option from a reputable company like Dinan.

How does this differentiate itself from JB4? I see maybe one additional piggyback sensor maybe?

long story short, Dinan uses fewer sensors so its easier to install, But the jb4 has more features and allows the user more control

safety failsafe that kicks you back to the stock map if the car is running lean or over boosting
datalogs
ability to read and delete codes
custom map
boost by gear, boost by RPM for better traction
Compatibility with E85

Reading the product manual out of curiosity, it appears that knock mitigation is completely manual through map adjustments. You are supposed to increase map until the motor knocks or "doesn't run smoothly".

Given the sensors this is really just a boost pressure modifier. I might have some concerns running this at higher altitudes where there is already ECU boost pressure intervention. At first I thought that was an OBD2 connector and maybe it interfaces with the ECU but that port is just for the tuning module itself.

I don't quite understand the post.

The safety failsafe is not manual, they'll kick automatically anytime the car is not handling the extra power well

as far as the maps, map 1 is safe for all conditions, all premium fuel, and all mods even stock cars. You can also run map 5 which will auto adjust so you wont need to datalog

Map 0: JB4 disabled
Map 1: Additive target, around 4psi over stock.
Map 2: Additive target, around 6psi over stock. Suggested for those with 93 octane and bolt on modifications. Also good for small E85 mixtures.
Map 3: Progressive WMI mapping.
Map 4: Stock performance with JB4 active for logging only.
Map 5: Autotuning map, absolute target of 11-17psi based on octane and conditions.
Map 6: User definable absolute target map. Suggested for troubleshooting by professionals only.
Map 7: Race gas map. Absolute target of 18.5psi. Requires straight unleaded race gas.

No. Dinan products are designed to be legal (emissions included) so will not defeat any emissions controlled devices/functionality.

Announced on their facebook page today to cover the C & the CS. Nearly double the price of the Dinan and you can add a warranty. Plus a stage 2 unit available with warranty as well.

Ignoring the ability to add their engine warranty, do you know what it does differently, if anything, to warrant double the price?

The Dinan unit notes power increase for the C and does not mention a CS. They show a C at ~480/490 while Carbahn Stage 1 claims ~500/530 on a C or a CS, 20/40 difference. If the CS is truly underrated in BMW's HP claim that is a lot of money to make ~50HP more, but a lot of torque (since this is the same on both C and CS)

For $250 more over Stage 1 the Carbahn Stage 2 (needs to be edited in the description so it does state Stage 2) puts out ~530/560 on a C or CS. Again, if you believe BMW, on a CS at BMW factory stated numbers that is an 80/160 gain. Seems to be all about the torque.

The Dinan seems like a boost stacker on top of the stock PSI settings and Carbahn is presumably doing the same, but if so how does it yield the same results on both the C and the CS?

I bought the warranty just in case but hardware wise - the harness has an extra port that plugs into the front cam censor. I believe the dinan unit only plugs into maf sensors - 2 locations vs Carbahn has 3.

Tune wise, the dyno charts look pretty similar but that's a question you should ask Carbahn. All I can say is, sport mode feels like the old sport plus. Sport plus feels like a new car.

Stage 2 warrants an upgrade for the FMIC so it's more costly than ~$250 if you want to be safe.

How well does the app work? Can you tune how much power you want from the app and the sport + buttons?

Also, not sure why the fitment says 2021 M2C. Shouldn’t it say 2019-2021 M2’s?

You can buy and install a AK Motion Display. One of its many functions is to overide the O2 sensor.

About to pull the trigger on one of these but I would really like to know if there are any long term reliability issues with this since it doesn't do any AFR adjustments

Probably fine if you are at sea level. Wouldn't run this sort of thing at altitude. Nor would I track it with this thing on.
