I definitely don't want to come off as a hater. The M2 seems awesome. For the price I'd definitely have it over my M4, though I think the 4 looks a lot sexier.
+1 M4 is alot better looking

Actually, I think the M3 is better looking than the M4. I like the back half of the M3 better.

I'll opine on the M2 and its comparison with other cars when I actually see one in the metal. That might be the most informed way to go about it.

I agree

For me, M2 = M3 > M4.

I just really want a coupe, and if I got the M4 I might as well get the cheaper, better looking (to me) M3.

But honestly, I couldn't have asked for more from the M2

Thank you BMW

He said the DCT was good for women and other types?? Lol.

I enjoyed the review. I think the M2 is getting high praise because its starting point (the 2 series) was already better received than the 3 series so it had better bones.

That being said, I sat in one at the auto show and I felt like BMW didn't go far enough to make it feel special. It's rather plain or should I say not different enough than the M235 on the inside and on the exterior they could have added a few bits like the M3/4.

Hard not to come off as hater when you own an M4.

I didn't realize the m4 overheated at the track? maybe it needs some kidney grilles like the M2 has to help cool it. lol. I think that sounds a bit silly. the parts that seem to get destroyed on M3s/4s at track days are the MPSS tires and OEM brake pads.

I am still happy that the M2 is getting high praises but it seems like people want it to happen at the expense of the M3/4... I don't get that. they're both great cars, but each have their pros and cons. I can concede that the new 2er is the 3er of yesteryear... and back then I would have probably been an m5 guy.

if you want/need small, M2 seems like a winner! I'd love to drive one sometime! I wonder if the M2 or the Camaro SS 1LE will deliver more smiles for $50k, 2 doors, and maniacal performance..

Not trying to be a hater here.

But really the M2 they were testing are a brand new one, they were the very first press to perform a test on it. The test was performed during a warmer day of course, thus positive feedback will be expected, which will make BMW China happy as well. *more advertising for Autohome*

In contrast, the M4 they were testing was during a freezing winter day while the car was fully beated up by other journalists previously with bald rubbers as well. How is that a fair comparision?

The logic behind the show is pretty obvious here: When they were launching the M3/M4 back in 2014, M3/M4 were marketed to be the best performance car ever by the press here locally, all the marketing activities and compaigns were all about them. I remember the press were perform different test to demonstrate how M3/M4 could be far more superior than the M5/M6 or E9X M3 on track blah blah. Now it's M2's turn which soon to be launchedat Beijing Auto Show, all the reviews among Chinese media guys are leaning towards how M2 is better than M3/M4 in almost every ways. Whenever a new model is introduced in China, the best way to market it is by exaggerating its performance via trashing previous model. Well, I have driven both, and I can tell you do not believe in this kind of review.

imo, it is a very cheap move. M2 and M3/M4 are marketed differently with different targeted consumers, so if they wanna perform a fair test, do it with Audi S3 and 45AMG's. You know why? Because the media guys want advertising from Audi and Merc as well, so they don't want to do a straight comparing test for a certain categories. Instead, they just bash on M3/M4 to show how superior the M2 is, which is fine since BMW China has no marketing budget for M3/M4 in 2016.

Not saying they are not professional, the guy drove the car is an ex-pro racer so he is good at driving for sure. However, their review is not so objective tho. Track driving and kissing PR department of manufactures butt are the only two things Autohome are good at, from an auto enthusiast's perspective.

Well, my Chinese is a bit rusty, but from what I could read of the subtitles the first driver complained several times that the weather in the mountains in which he was driving was too cold for him to feel totally comfortable with the grip, and he didn't want to be the first guy to bend an M2.

I'm not sure the difference in the driving experience is a matter of temperature...

However this is not the real fatty bro actually... This guy in the review is Chuang Yan (闫闯) I think. Fatty bro usually means another great reviewer in China - Li Yang (杨力), who has a little bit similar look. Li doesn't work for AutoHome any more.
Great review though!

The traffic here is really bad. It used to take me at least solid 3hrs per day to drive from home to work. Now I work from 10am to 7pm daily, so I can avoid the rush hour a bit. Now the local government implement a sort of policy which regulates you could only drive one particular car 4 weekdays out of 5, and it helps a little.

But still, it is really bad here. That's why manual cars don't sell in China.

It was done at the early March, the local temp was around 16 degrees Celsius, while the test on M4 was done in last winter when the temp was like below 0 degree.

The track is on the mountain and it is HARD on the brakes. I got to drive the same M2 a week later and the tires are worn and brakes are weak as well. According to the source from track staff, they have been tracking the M2 the whole day while they only took the M4 out for a couple of laps.

Not saying the M2 is a bad car, actually it is a fantastic toy for this type of driving. But I don't think it is fair how the media guys need to praise the M2 at the expense of M3/M4, in order to please BMW China.
