I like the car a lot... not sure I would pay a premium over my M2C which looks and feels identical... I do want the CS tune out of it though.

Yeah, I dont get this either. It's still pretty much the M2 and looks it. Just lot of CF and a tune. The $30k price gap between that and my M2 is a bit nuts

Absolutely agree!! I'd rather buy a his/hers M3/M4 combo for that price, or an M3 and a Raptor, Audi R8... I could go on and on... Def couldn't see myself spending that much on that car...

Looks great and I especially love the look of the bulging hood, against the M2's profile but they really killing me with the overall MSRP..

Good for those that could swing it..

They probably ran out of cf by the time they got to the rear.

Haha Kepler. I was going to let that one slide.

As far as pricing goes everyone has to remember that there is a heavy tax in the Netherlands. Imagine what him/hers m4s would cost, r8, etc. I'm sure they would also come with a heavy premium. Some folks have to pay it or go without. That's a tough place to be. Hopefully other things cost less to help offset it? Healthcare, retirement benefits??? I hope something I'd there to ease the pain.

Obviously the Accountants are on glue.

Again, why would someone pay this much for a car with an end of lifecycle engine?

Just imagine, buying this and a couple years later, out comes the M2 with S58 engine.

The next-generation M2 which is still three years away, is rumored to have 420 horsepower and 0-60 of low 4 seconds. The 2020 M2 CS has 444 horsepower and 0-60 of 3.8 seconds with the DCT. So better stats without having to wait three long years. Also next-generation G87 M2 does not have DCT and is bigger and will weigh more. The weight increase definitely does not help 0-60.

Lastly I think the M2 CS is a big improvement for people who "only" have a OG M2 n55 version. You are getting a different engine and 79 horsepower increase, 41 torque increase, so a big difference on day one. I can understand M2 Competition owners only seeing a small incremental improvement.

I'm still not convinced the S55 is much inferior to the S58. My suspicion is that theyve taken a slightly different approach to making power, which has an impact on drivability. Looking forward to some more s58 data.

This is my interpretation as well, that the s58 is an extension of the s55, not a whole new revolutionary engine. The s58 M2 won't be on dealer lots for a full three years. The current generation M2 goes out of production in June 2021 and then no new M2's until December 2022 or longer (18 month gap). I'm not impressed with the G87 M2 specs as the M2 CS is better. Once the G87 M2 comes out, it will be hampered as not to compete with the G Series M3/M4.

At least the M2 CS is essentially a F Series M4 Competition with power at 444 horsepower.

You make a pretty good point here in explaining how this year's M2 CS may be the most powerful M2 until the G87 M2 CS, whenever that may be (2025?).

Pound for pound, they're both great motors but the weak crank hub issue with the S55 makes me lose sleep..

So since that issue was remedied with the S58, I would subjectively consider that the better engine.

BTW, $150K Eur is like $170K USD. The majority of that has got to be taxes.

The Netherlands:
  • BTW = "Belasting Toegevoegde Waarde" = Value Added Tax (VAT);
  • BPM = "Belasting van Personenauto's en Motorrijtuigen" = Tax on Cars and Motor vehicles (environmental tax calculated on the basis of net catalogue value + CO2 value).
Now what the papers said (see the video @ 02:49):
  • Price specified vehicle:
  • Net price without BTW/BPM: €91,296.39
  • BTW (21% on €91,245.29): €19,161.52
  • BPM: €40.137.00
    Total: €150,595.00 (± $168K)
Tax authorities of The Netherlands might say: "Thanks for the €59,298.52. By the way, nice BMW 2-Series."
