Dealer Scratched Rim

I took my car in to the dealership to have new tires put on. Naturally, when I came to pick it up, I inspected the new hardware, but noticed pretty significant scratches on both driver side tires and rims. Both are scraped with yellow paint, so clearly from the same incident. See photo for reference.

The rims weren't perfect before I brought the car in, but these scratches are definitely the largest and most noticeable. I pointed it out to the dealer and they said my SA will be contacting me today.

What would you guys do? Push for them to repair the 2 rims?

For sure it's their fault, replace or fix. Ask to get all 4 refinished if possible! This is entirely their fault, just be polite and ask for what you deserve! Let us know how it goes!

Don't even attempt to repair 437M. It's a nightmare and almost no shops outside of 1-2 that I've heard of will be able to do it right; you'll end up with paint or texture not matching even with a full re-CNC and pain. I'd ask for a new wheel(s)

For sure this should be a non issue after a polite conversation with the service manager. Stuff happens. I'd talk to the dealership first before posting on the internet. You may find that your post is about how great they handled the situation.

This isn't true in my experience. I've had two of my 437's repaired by a local wheel repair shop and they look indistinguishable from the other two that weren't damaged.

If the dealership damages your car and they're the one's paying then obv ask for new wheels but if you damage them yourself you can easily repair each one for ~$150-200 at a decent wheel repair place. Replacing a wheel out of pocket for $800+ is just ridiculous.

Intention was never to bash, as I didn't mention the dealership or the SA. Simply wanted advice. But I hope you that you are correct.

I sent them the images and they are reviewing.

What kind of idiot do they have working at the dealer that would be that careless with a customer's car?

You either have a extraordinary local shop or aren't as picky as me. Read up on the M3/4 side of the forum on almost all the people who have tried to have the 437s repaired. I had two different "highly rated" shops each try twice. Some of the M3/4 guys ship their wheels to a guy in California to have them repaired because of the difficulty.

The very reason my Service Advisor is the only one that can drive my cars without me present.

They'd be buying me two new rims and paying for my next oil-change.

Not being honest about the damage is on them.

The plot thickens.

Upon further inspection, realized that they installed 3 Michelin PSS and 1 generic sport (300 tread vs. 220 tread). No idea how that happens as they had to order the set just for me. Comical now

Have them fix it and never go back. Actually, don't let them touch your car anymore. Fix it and send them the bill from your new dealer.

Wow, that's just crazy.
As far as fixing 437m wheels. Yes it's more difficult because of the tinted clearcoat but I got it done and it turned out well (similar level of damage as yours)

It's an extremely hard finish to duplicate.

You're lucky you found someone that actually knows what they're doing.

Pretty much. It's pretty apparent that this dealership service department is not up to snuff. That's amateur hour and would be unacceptable in a Hyundai dealership let alone BMW.

As noted, these wheels are hard to refinish. I think refinishing all 4 so they look similar is in your best interest. You mention they were not perfect before, so how bad were they? Not a great excuse but whoever damaged them might have seen the other damage already there and said "meh, guy won't care".

Either way, when they fix the tire situation they can and should fix the rim situation and give you a loaner

I got my car back from my local BMW dealership a few weeks back. They were attempting to fix an interior rattle in the dashboard. I get the car back and the steering wheel had a 2 in abrasion on it. They swapped the whole wheel out no problem.

But, for real they didn't realize that, or check the car out prior to giving it back to me?

They don't check anything, and certainly not cosmetic stuff.

You did well getting a new steering wheel from them.

Not nearly as difficult as Shadow Chrome on 00-03 M5 wheels.

I always walk around with the SA and make sure they point out anything they see. It makes issue like this easier to deal with.

Don't want to distract from the OP's issue but why are these wheels so hard to repair? I spoke to a company at the Essen Motor Show who were at the show to show off their wheel repair ability, they were ever machining and repainting wheels right there in their booth but when I asked about repairing an M2 wheel (I have a small rash from day 2 of ownership...day 2!), they told me they could not do it. For a high end shop, tinted clear-coat shouldn't be an issue.

They repaired my wheels wrong and I was at a 6 month standoff with my dealership, I ended up writing a 4 page essay to BMW GERMANY complaining and they immediately contacted my dealer to fix the situation, the dealer put it on they're insurance and gave me 2 new rims. Push them to replace.
