Hi all,
With all the risk of creating a thread about a subject that has been already discussed recently, I need to ask your advice and valued opinion about a purchase opportunity that kept me awake for the last few nights. I was recently offered a 2018 M2 for a substantial discount at one of the dealers here in Canada. Considering the price reduction and the low interest for both lease and finance( the difference in interest rate between a last year's M2 and a new M2C is 3% currently in Canada) , I am torn aprt between getting the heavily discounted 2018 or the upgraded 2019 M2C. This car would be my all-season daily driver. Has anyone been in this situation recently? What would be your choice? Thanks in advance! |

As a daily driver there isn’t much difference in the cars. The M2C is a much better track car than the M2.
So the decision is should be based on what your intended use will be. From your description it sounds like the 2018 M2 would be fine. |

The car would be mainly for commuting. Very little track time, if any.

In my eyes it's a no brainer - the 2018 all the way. Significant cost saving, better engine sound, subjectively better looks (more traditional grille). Sure, you lose the fancy seats but for that price difference they are not worth it.

Nothing beats the seductive sound of the OG M2.

I also think the 18 would be the better choice, because of the nice discount, and very little, if any track time. You could also go to the track later down the road, should you change your mind, just not I assume as hardcore if you had an M2C.

I would echo what the others have stated. The M2 is a fine car for what you are looking for. Unless you are going to be going all out on a track, the slight advantages that the M2C offers over the M2 will not be noticed even on a spirited drive. Furthermore, it is without debate that the M2 sounds much better than the M2C. If you plan on doing track days and track times are important to you, well then the M2C would be a better weapon of choice. The M2C is the latest and greatest, but remember the M2CS is right around the corner...there will always be something on the horizon.

Depends on the price difference IMO. I’m loving my ‘17, but I still prefer the M2C. Is it worth $20k more? Nah. $15k? Getting close. I’d say it’s worth $10k more to me, but it’s all subjective

Seems to me the advantages of the S55 don't become apparent until you are getting into illegal speeds so if it's a street car you are paying a lot more for a considerably more complex engine that you aren't going to see much of its benefits. If it's true that the M2C has a bit more compliant of a ride that could be a positive factor for a daily commuter.
The truth is that for most of us we are purchasing these cars for bragging rights of their ultimate potential as most will never drive these cars to their limits. You have to ask yourself if value is more important than bragging rights and minor styling cues. There's no wrong answer as this is always a personal decision. |

If you're going to mod it for more power get M2C, if not doesn't matter. How are you guys getting 30K difference in price? I only paid 10K to upgrade from my 2017 M2 to 2019 M2C and I traded in my 2017 M2, didn't even sell it private party. If I did the delta would have been around 7k.

I'm new to BMW's and my 18 lci is my first. I feel I understand all of the differences between the OG/LCI and the Comp version at this point.
In no way do I regret not getting the M2C. In fact, the more I read about the comparisons, the happier I am just to have the 18 lci. If it was a comparison between the OG and the LCI, there might be some regret there because I feel like the small upgrades would make a noticeable difference in the livability of the car. While the differences between the LCI and Comp are mostly performance related. Sure there are some cool interior/exterior changes, but nothing that I see that really adds to your average driving enjoyment or safety (unlike the brighter gauges and adaptive headlights from OG to LCI for example). Just my .02

For the driving I do, the N55 does everything I need. My 2017 Grand Sport Vette did even more and I couldn't ever enjoy it on the streets. So as far as "superiority" goes, I'm glad you're happy with your S55. |

The way the S55 is tuned in the M2C, it drives like a NA engine. I shift my 6MT like I shift my motorcycle. It just revs effortlessly. The N55 does not drive that way. It drives more like a turbo car with a gush of power early on but it doesn't feel like it wants to rev. The butt/back dyno performance at 4000 is exhilarating. That slam back in the seat is something that you can feel any time you want without even breaking the speed limit.Torque baby!
