I don't think you understand what a gimmick is. It and Android Auto work very well for what they are which is a universal interface for drivers of all automotive brands. There's a reason pretty well every new car has compatibility these days and it's because most factory infotainment systems are borderline unusable. BMW drivers are a little spoiled by iDrive as most systems are not nearly as good;

OG F87 M2 - CarPlay Purchase Options (AUDM)
Hi all,
My car was a Oct 2016 build, Australian version. As a DCT version, it has pretty much all options ticked as default except heated steering wheel and CarPlay. Recently I want to give CarPlay ago (A$1/m trial available), found there is an option to enable CarPlay (CarPlay prep?) indefinitely (yeah!) Does this mean the NBT Evo has built-in CarPlay capability, it's just not activated/enabled? If so, is there any cheaper option (3rd party, e.g. BimmerTech) to enable the capability (which does not expire, hate CarPlay as subscription). NOTE: OS is still iDrive 5 (should be able to run iDrive 6 lite - no touchscreen). TIA

Yes, the NBT should have come prepped. Run your VIN and you may be able to see that.

Your link won't work as it's probably a banned site on here

Still looking for a remote (or close to Raleigh, NC) solution to get my IDrive updated to a version that will support full screen. I am currently running 'K'.
Any suggestions? |

Is there an official page with info on how to obtain the USB upgrade package for full screen CarPlay? The previously linked Facebook page doesn't mention anything. My car has the NBTEvo_O18184I software.
What is the difference in various versions of the NBT iDrive firmware? Does one gain any performance/stability/features with newer revisions and is this something that the dealer has to do? Thanks in advance! |
