Wife's new car...Same Spec madness!

Wife picked up a new VW GTI yesterday and goes, "it's like a his and hers!"
Then i really looked at the car, VWs "White Silver Metallic" sure looks a lot like Hockenheim Silver Metallic. Also, their "Titan Black Leather" with red stitching sure looks like the stuff we have in our cars. This Silver/White/Gray color is pretty popular on German cars.

Side note, it's a cute car and actually seems like its fun to drive. Even has a break in period.

I actually like GTI's as daily drivers. I'm thinking of getting one for my son as well

Nice! My girlfriend has a 2019 GTI with the DSG. Its a fun little car and handles really well. The DSG is a fantastic Dual Clutch transmission and is super fast.

GTIs are great, but it's the Golf R that's an absolutely amazing one-car package. If you want one car that can quite literally do it all (manual transmission, fantastic tech, fun as hell to drive, AWD, hatchback practicality, 4 doors, etc.) I cannot think of a better option for $40k.

I test drove a Golf R last year, really liked it, a little too much lag for me but for the wife, she's good to go.

Love the GTI as well. Had a Mk7 GTI previously. Would have gotten another GTI but always wanted to try a R. Covid boredom, sure why not haha

The GTI is an awesome car. They mod really well. I don't drive mine much since buying the M2C but I can't bring myself to get rid of it.

Hahaha, I'm in the same EXACT position. I ordered an M2 (Oct. 5th production) to replace my daily driver GTI. I was going to get rid of it, but can't do it!

One of the reasons I didn’t like HS was because of the similarities to that particular color.

My step mom has one of those and it’s pretty darn fun to drive.

Back in college, I owned a mk4 R32.
Probably one the cars I loved the most.
Few years later, my then-girl friend bought the mk5 R32. Very well put together vehicles IMO.
There’s a reason why Golf is considered the benchmark hatchback.

I thought about getting a 4-door Golf R as a daily. Hoping it would do well in the Winter while the M2C hibernates.

I like that Golf R's are still made in Germany. I'm hoping it's decently fast. Of course it would have to be a manual.

I sold my MK7 GolfR last year to buy the M2C. I so miss it. I had a DSG model. It was so quick off the line and handles so well. The suspension is so much more forgiving compared to the M2, even in race mode. Now that VW stopped selling them, i suspect they will appreciate a great deal in the coming years. who knows if VW will bring the Golf R back once the Mk8 is out.

Great car, and much lighter than the M2. Handles really well considering it's front wheel drive.

I thought about getting a Golf R before choosing the GTI, but I couldn't justify the price/performance difference. There isn't a huge difference in performance when daily driving and I got a new 2018 SE manual for $27,000 out the door. Couldn't find an R for less than $40,000 at the time.

Update, the car is still fun. Since COVID, we don't do a lot of driving, so the car only has 500 miles on it. The break in period is 1000 miles, obviously it isn't anywhere near as fast as the M2C but I would love to actually floor the thing to find out how quick it is. It seems to corner pretty well for a FWD car with 225 series tires. I think they're 225 all around.

We had our GTI for 11 years and traded it in for a Golf R last year. Both are great cars! I swapped out the side mirrors for the motorised Euro spec (with puddle lights). I love being able to fold the mirrors when parking in those tight Seattle parking spots. I haven’t had that feature since my S14 Silvia and now I have 2 cars with it!
The VW hatch/M2C is a great combo!
