Wireless Charger Retrofit
Has anyone attempted this? Here in Canada the Airplay/wireless hotspot and wireless charger are one option @ $750CN. I don't even know how to switch an iPhone On so did not go for the option. I am interested in the wireless charging though.

If you find a way to do it, I'll happily send you my module on the cheap. I'll never use it, and it takes away space in the already small armrest storage area.

It is really a worthless option in my experience, it takes more effort to put in the pad in the armrest than it takes me to plug my phone in and I have my phone accessible if needed (I avoid that of course). GM and some others have this figured out better by making the entire flat surface in front shifter recharge pad, so the location most put their phone is where they can also charge.

So happy to hear these comments. Honestly I normally charge my phone at night but recently had a rental that had the wireless pad. It was extremely handy but it was on top of the armrest...

It's also extremely slow so it's no use at all st shorter journeys. I ordered without it but for MY18 config it was included in the navi pro pack (sweden) so got it 'for free'.

My wife uses this Amazon wireless pad:
https://www.amazon.ca/Wireless-Charg...eywords=pictek And it has fast charge on her Samsung S7. Not sure about iPhone X though. If you just hooked it up to the USB in the armest, it would work. Although, the specific wireless pad above is finnicky if not placed properly on it. |

Thanks for the great suggestions guys! I have a Galaxy S8 so the fast charging is good for me.

Also what I have realised it does not support large phones.
Although I tried few times and checked on online owner's manual I still do have a question: Once the phone placed in position, the blue light comes on and goes off after few seconds. In the owner's manual it is written to close the armrest after phone being placed. The charge starts after that? or should it be charging anyhow? do I need to turn anything in the phone settings? |

Wireless charging has a great advantage in wear and tear on the lightning connector. My son's less than two year old 5SE had to be prepared this week. The connector had a loose wire. I have been lucky with my 2 year plus old 6S, but my concern over the wireless charging is possible fire risk. Not because I fear a new tech, but rather that new tech be tested out in YOUR Car and YOUR house for a year or so before I try it! JK. Or am I!
Mike PS. RS6 first model year, M2 first model year, so I am not a coward! LOL.

I've always thought the cradle was stupid anyway... just make the rubber mat the charging pad. I can't imagine the phone is going to slide around that much in normal driving, especially since most people have cases that are grippier than the phone. And as large as phones are getting there's not a whole lot of excess room on the mat anyway. This DIY seems to be a nice retrofit that will work with any phone. |
