Should I wait to purchase F87 until after G87 reveal?

Normal sentiment is to assume that a previous generation vehicle would take a hit in value when the next gen comes out.

We are 6 days away from the reveal of the g87...

I currently have, what I feel, is a decent deal lined up for a 2021 f87. $56.5 with 33k miles - manual trans.

Considering that the f87 is arguably one of the best modern M cars, I feel that it may be relatively "safe" to pull the trigger. The most significant pros on the g87 is the s58 and adaptive suspension. I'm sure it also has an improved chassis, in a slightly larger platform.

What is the forum opinion regarding this? Am I over thinking this? haha

Thanks in advance

From the previews of the G87, it is a quite ugly car. The reviews say that it handles great and is as fast as an F87 CS.

So do you want looks or performance? I am keeping my F87.

I assume you have seen the leaked G87 photos. Not very good looking in my opinion.

Also should take into account the latest take on it in Australia that the S58 coming in it is remapped to 450hp which alludes to a G87 Comp coming in with the full 500+ hp. Then have to ask yourself do you also prefer to wait for the comp model there.

I love the look and feel after all the mods I've done to my F87 and the only other vehicle I could see after this one is a GT3 RS but very different cars of course. I'd suggest try to get an in person look of the new G87 when it reaches dealers. It's design is very polarizing yes and you'll want to get a feel of the chassis and how everything works together and decide if the F87 is more down your alley

Yes the G87 is about to be revealed, but first deliveries won't be till next spring. I seriously doubt that F87 values will be affected in either direction anytime soon. Eventually, maybe. Now? Seems unlikely.

That said, $56.5k at that mileage doesn't seem like such a great deal. A 2020 with only 4500 miles didn't meet reserve at that exact figure today...

Seems unlikely the price will move. If anything it will be impacted by a bad economy. They're not that many f87 made to trade in to flood the market. Some will buy the g87, some will hold tight to their f87 after seeing the g87, some will be waiting like you for the reveal and be disappointed and start shopping for f87. My guess is the price won't be effected.

Bad economy???
Unemployment is lowest ever and the level of pay is unheard of.
The price will adjust (to normal levels)because of lower demand that was previously 3x the supply because of supply shortages.

Yes in the near FUTURE (next 1-2 years) the economy might be bad.

That BaT link is interesting. I have noticed some m2's tend to sit at dealerships for several months. With increasing rates we could see a minor "correction" in the pre owned market....maybe 5-10%...

Regarding the looks of the g87. It is a very subjective matter.
It is very different than the f87...That is obvious. However, I do see potential in the new design. I think that it will have a certain presence with its very "wide" stance and pronounced hips, which is a character some of us m car fans desire. It is premature pass any conclusive judgement on the g87s looks, but if the new m3/4 are any indication, it should drive and handle very well.

The new M2 G87 if leaked pics are true looks awful. Downright ugly. The F87 is far better looking and I'm keeping mine!

The leaked G87 looks god-awful. I'd buy the F87 now.

The release of the new G87 will have the same impact on M2 prices as it will 1M prices.

Supply is fixed and relatively limited for both and demand will remain which will be reflected in prices.

Anyone have f87 US production numbers per year? manual and dct?

I'm leaning manual right now, but acknowledging that the dct is better in almost every performance metric has me thinking twice.

Yes. N55 is all that is available. For some reason 2019-2021 US sales numbers have not been available.

But you did ask your question in the OG M2 forum (N55).

Why wait.
That's a sweet heart deal if.....true and clean car title and record. I love my f87
