Dinan vs Carbahn Tune

Deciding between the two...anyone have any experience with either?

On paper, the Carbahn tune seems better and warranties the higher HP gain. I have been tune shopping for a while and have been leaning that way. Crossing my fingers for a Black Friday sale.

I also am interested in hearing reviews between both of these tunes. I'm not looking for the absolute most power, but would rather have a reliable tune with factory smoothness.

Interesting. Had no idea Carbahn even existed. Was wondering what Steve D had been up to. The stage I flash tune seems like a pretty good deal at 550hp/560lb-ft with matching warranty for $1700, but does it work with the latest DME lockout? I'm assuming no...

DME needs to be pulled and sent to carbahn to be backdated, then flashed via obd2.

I am curious to know if Carbahn, like Dinan, recommends an upgraded intercooler for their stage 1 tune.

I had no idea about Carbahn either, but I'm heavily interested to say the least. Pretty good deal considering the $ per warrantied HP

Not to mention they sell built engines. God forbid your crank hub goes, it makes me feel a bit better that they literally offer entire S55 engine upgrades as a service lol

Aha. I read the fine print on the Dinan site the other day—after you’ve sent your DME in to be backdated and then tuned, if a dealer subsequently updates your DME back to current spec, wiping out the tune, it’s your responsibility to pay for the whole DME removal and backdating/flash process to be done again. What a PITA. Would make me very paranoid to get dealer service.

If you specifically tell the dealer not to update the DME and they do, it's on them in my opinion

I would imagine it is only a matter of time before the dme lockout will be solved. This would only be a short term issue, I hope.

Exactly. It will eventually be solved...just no timeline. I am getting the tune installed by my dealer next month, after the break in service.

Dealer stated that they would not flash the car with a new flash from BMW without first talking to me, no matter what.

Also, CarBahn does not require the upgraded heat exchanger that DINAN does.

I feel like if Carbahn advertised and offered a Black Friday sale they would sell a lot more tunes for our cars. To me it is the better performance for the buck while keeping the matching warranty.

I'm interested in Carbahn as well. They seem to know their stuff. Any company that builds and sells complete street and race engines gets a huge plus in my book!

You can install Carbahn tune yourself if your DME is unlocked.

Yep...I believe all M2C's built after 5/19 have the locked DME. My dealer will be overnighting mine to CarBahn for the unlock and flash. Works out nice, as I am having some M parts installed while the DME is off getting flashed.

TheRealOrosie, How are you liking the Carbahn Tune? I am looking to do the same. How long did it take for them to ship out the DME and get it back?

Love it. Smooth as stock with more power everywhere. Took about 3 days to install at the dealer (1 day ship, 1-2 days at Carbahn, and a day to ship back)...so figure 4-5 days most likely.

Combined with my MPE and Dinan intake, the car is feeling very strong. I just put 285s on the rears to help with the extra torque! 👍

Nice! Can you confirm your wheel specs? Did you just change the tire or the wheels/rims too?

Thank you!
