How to maintain the dakota leather?

Has anyone figured out how to maintain the weird dakota leather on the seats of these cars? Leatherique works for my other car but I'm not sure it would soak into the m2 leather? The Dakota leather seems to have a coating on it.

I don't know. I'm just using Adam's total interior detailer. YMMV

I've been using Griot's Garage Leather Care and I really like it. It definitely gets absorbed and dries to a matte finish (I could see some people may not care for the leather smell -- but I find it dissipates in a few days).

Mine wears like iron. Wasn't planning to treat it with anything. Are you seeing signs of wear?

Well the lower bolster has some wear but it's so much softer there it's like the coating has worn off so actually I think on that area leather products absorb fine.

But the back seats which get almost zero use are very hard to the touch like they are very very dry. I'm not really sure what product can help there.

The Dakota leather is clear coated. Just wipe it down with warm water with a mild PH cleaner. Many conditioners will weaken the coating. I have never had an issue with Dakota leather. Bolster wear is bolster wear. You sand it spray new color on it.

You can spend for "special" alcantara cleaning prods, but I just heavily mist a really good MF towel, with Griots Interior cleaner and gently wipe in one direction. If its been while, best vacumm it a bit if you can...no sense in pushing dust INTO the covering. Others may differ, but it this has kept it supple and clean. That's all I ask.

I keep a horsehair brush in my center console and brush it from time to time.

Isn’t it alcantara as opposed to suede?

I second the Sonax cleaner. That foam seems to really work. I work it into the steering wheel with my hands. That guarantees it gets all the places where my hands spend most of their time.

Saying Alcantara is like saying Kleenex or Frisbee. It's a brand name that has become synonymous with the product. Lots of people use the term interchangeably with suede even though Alcantara is a non-suede synthetic product. I can understand your point however as there may be differences in cleaning the two materials, so proper terminology could be a good idea in this particular instance.

Now you have me curious. What is the proper name for the suede like matl in our cars? I thought alcantara was the proper terminology but maybe something different?

It's synthetic suede - Aka alcantara

I use 303 Aerospace on the Dakota and the interior dash parts + trim. It all looks brand new after 3.5 years.

Yep, I got ya on the brand name thing. Important part is the came off a cow or synthetic part. Suede sure isn’t a brand name. Well, I’m sure it is for something that’s not suede, lol.
