Saturday was just my next available time. Got the BMW Golf Invitation tomorrow (hoping to get some free swag ) and slammed at work.

But the wait is finally over.

I wish. Maybe they should throw it in for making us wait so long. Hahaha.

Anyone get freebies for the inconvenience? Or am I being unreasonable?

My last experience with my 435 at Edmonton BMW was so terrible they gave me $500 for parts/service.

Congrats!

Don't know if he did it cause he felt bad for my month long delay, but my CA gave me a $100 gift card on my pickup day. It was totally unexpected, but a nice gesture.

Good news for those who are waiting though bittersweet as they should've done this from the start and have delayed so many people unnecessarily.

"the disc in the rear-axle differential in the vehicle wears out prematurely, causing loud noises"

So the 'can crunch noise' may be those 'loud noises' (see: here) ?

My car was scheduled to be fixed at port on 9/1. Does this mean that they are shutting down shop at the port and will no longer be replacing diffs at the port?

Will wait for an expert to weigh in, but I doubt it. I suspect this is really just to get the ones already at dealers out the door more quickly and those being intercepted in transit at the ports will still be handled that way. This is speculation, though, but it would make sense. The dealers are the hardest to get parts to from a leverage standpoint since it is ones and twos all over the place. The line and the ports are high leverage spots.

Yep. The cancellation was announced exactly one week after I picked up my car that sat at the dealer for SIX weeks...what a waste of good summer driving

So this stop delivery release does not appear to be global. Just posted in the UK thread about this, and someone called their dealer to get their car released. But they were informed that this is a BMW NA decision only?

Yes, not happy that I lost out on a month of prime drive time

But still super happy I was able to get the car this year, as for awhile there it wasn't looking so good.

Correct. Just called my guys and it's not for Canada either (yet anyway).

By BMW rules, North America only includes the USA.........also the main reason they're doing this is that the fix for some cars has slipped into November already, so people are getting pissed.

EDIT: by the way, the disclosure form is awful and I would absolutely refuse to sign it. You essentially are taking on all of the liability and BMW is relinquishing any liability and ownership of the issue if you pick it up before the fix - i.e. if your diff blows up and sends a piece of shrapnel up your ass, you're on your own.

If they had offered it to me I would have said no and kept the loaner.

So I guess if once your car is delivered to the dealer and you refuse to sign the form when you pick it up, it'll sit until the parts come in for the rear differential to be fixed? Not to mention that the dealer would most likely want to put your car on the showroom floor...

I'd say that's a fair assessment. The other thing too is that now dealers can refuse you a loaner, since you're CHOOSING to not pick up your car if you don't sign the form...it's dirty.
