it's complicated -

"Peninsula club chief executive Heath Wilson broke the news to members by email last week, saying that after a chat with the club’s insurers, he was pulling the plug on the in-house charging service for buggy batteries.

“We understand that this will cause some inconvenience to members. However, the risk is now too real to ignore following the Eastern Golf Club incident which destroyed their clubhouse,” Wilson wrote.

The Eastern Golf Course clubhouse has been destroyed in a ferocious blaze in Victoria’s Yarra Valley.

Thankfully, Peninsula’s golfers will not be expected to get themselves and their gear around the links under their own steam; the club’s own electric buggies will continue to roll, powered by new batteries that are subject to a stringent maintenance regime, Heath reckons."

Aren't most golf carts batteries big 6V AMG or lead acid batteries?

Golf carts lack the sophisticated electronics so I suspect the majority are AGM as they are cheap and not fussy. I'm sure there are LiPo set up out there for those who have the need for speed.

This issue with golf carts is going to devastate the EV automotive market. I have heard that China will stop all EV production due to this issue with golf carts at one club in Australia.

If I had not already sold my Tesla when I found out that Elon did not personally build it... I would definitely have sold it on this news!

No, I checked and most of the new carts are either Li Ion or gas ICE, not many "old school" lead-acid new. A few, but like I surmised, Li Ion has become the "standard" here.
