This last weekend I traded my F87C for a G87.
If we're strictly talking about the looks of the car, both cars have their merits. I love the F87C, I think it's one of the best M cars ever, it's that good. And I love the bulldog stance. They got it right with the car, simple as that. It's beautiful, muscular, has a timeless design.
I had a tough time with the design of the G87 because in photos, it looked like crap. It has odd angles and if you're using a wide lens or something, yikes.
However in real life, the car looks menacing. I got it in BSM and it looks like a freaking DTM hotrod with the super wide flares. Parking in my garage, I can say that it is wider than the F87C, like by a lot.
Will it be a legend like the F87? Who knows? Looks wise, it's you have to see it before judging it.

What got me to buy it was driving it, man the G87 is sweet. It drives so damn well it is honestly, mind blowing. Truly, it's badass and this is coming from someone who absolutely loved his F87C.

Let me know what questions you may have.

wow a true convert!

congrats on the pick up!

It sounds like you overall prefer the drive of the G87, are you able to elaborate on what you prefer about it?

The car feels very premium. This is the first thing you notice when you get inside, especially with the carbon buckets. It feels like a different class than the F87, more attuned to a 911 honestly, where it's solid, a lot of the touch points are upscale.
The driving impressions sort of follow that. The suspension is the biggest upgrade on the G series cars. Bumps feels better, the car feels planted in corners. My car only had 12 miles on it since it wasn't a HEA car, so I haven't pushed it nor am I going to any time soon. However at slower speeds, it feels, sounds, looks, hell even smells (probably due to the Merino leather), next level. Even at slow speed, I can tell that this is an badass car to drive. I wasn't a fan of ID8 in pictures, but once you get the hang of it, it's really nice.
I know these cars will be scarce (there's 27 people that have one on order at my dealer and they expect to get 1 car a month), so I totally understand forming an opinion on the car, but trust me, see one in real life and more importantly, drive one, it will blow you away.

Congrats!! Great to know someone in the area has one. What are your typical driving routes so I can keep an eye out? 🙂

interesting, I have to say as I "mature" the solid granite like GT feel of a car and a nice compliant ride become more important and so it well may be that the maturation of the M2 from F87 to G87 is right on point for me.

I will need to drive one to know for sure.

interested to hear your further thoughts as you drive it more.

It’s actually not horrendous at all in black. Not so bad. I think it’s mainly that TurdBlauNonMetallisch that is putting people off the most. It’s just horrendous. I’ve tried to like it, almost liked it, then not seen it for a couple of days and then… oh shit that’s horrible. Rinse repeat.

Baege, if I had a commute and one car I’d feel the same too. But I don’t have a commute and my cars need to give enjoyment. If I did have a commute then this or the G82 would be appealing with that blend of comfort and performance. I get it. Give the people what they want. Seems to be working for BMW. Enthusiasts are an ever diminishing market these days.

Funny, as I "mature" I want the frenetic nature of the M2C more and more, I leave the comfortable compliant ride to my daily cars...

I wanted to love the G87-- I really, really did.

But, no matter the performance, I just can't get over the looks.

I fell in love with the F87 the moment I saw it at an auto show and ordered an M2C a week later.

The G87, despite it's (debatably) upscale interior, looks like they grafted an unfinished front clip of a Dodge and an aftermarket JDM "wide wheel" fender kit on the rears-- the lines just don't really flow together, but come across (at least to my eye) as a hodgepodge of conflicting style cues.

I'm holding out my final opinion until I see it in person (that's only fair), but I'm not holding out much hope for the last hurrah of the MT M2C ever being in my garage.

I'm admitting that my biggest holdback with the G87 is its looks, directly front and rear. The side profile IMO is stellar.

I can acquiesce the more planted driving dynamics vs the F87 and would inevitably get over the size and weight of the car, the looks I just can't seem to get over. Hoping an LCI or Competition version fixes a lot of it.

Overall, I firmly believe the G87 is the improved car and, in a vacuum, it would be universally praised (and over time it still might be). I think the real "problem" with the G87 is that the F87 existed.

Bumpinjeep , happy for you on your new ride, enjoy in good health!

It's going to take some time for a few of us. I love my F87 Comp. It's been the best one out of the previous BMW's I have had. Hell, I don't even remember my previous BMW's because of how great the F87 Comp has been lol Knowing myself, I will end up getting the G87 in the future. Definitely the Comp Package. Fingers cross for xdrive!

thing is even though I don't commute I am in a one car only situation so the G87 looks rather appealing as a do it all in one car

if I had the luxury of multiple cars, I would be looking to get something that is a real occasion to drive everytime as my pleasure use only car

Converted as well - will miss the F87 and didn't intend on making the change. Not in love with the G87 but three things stood out:

1) in-person, it looks like a widebody - if you've owned the F87 long enough you can feel the difference standing next to it

2) interior, while i always liked the F87 package - sometimes you never wanted more, but if you have an option, would you try something new? sure, guess i can't go wrong

3) great value on the F87 - with strong demand for an excellent car that will 100% be a collectible and hold value vs G87, i'm able to trade into a fresh car at "0" miles again and with no maintenance (tires, brakes, warranty). this is the path i went as i don't foresee myself owning the F87 or G87 forever as i love cars and can't afford to own another without sacrificing the previous for equity.

I'll likely drive this around for 3 years and would expect to come out okay as i don't commute far (losing 9-12k w/taxes) and move on to whatever i might find interesting that hits the market.

I need to keep this on my calendar and go. I should be in town then and i'll have the car lowered on KW HAS with some spacers by then. Granted, the springs will settle eventually but it has the ride height of a SUV right now.

Again to reiterate, the F87 is a BMW classic and I loved owning mine, but after getting into the G87 with the carbon buckets, the first thing I thought was 'F me' then I drove it and knew that I had to have it.

I will be at XXX also. Great local event with excellent hamburgers and root beer in frosted mugs.

The dimensions of the F87 were actually a big selling point to me over the Camaro, and I'm not interested in anything bigger (as an E9x lover, I'd already felt that BMW was suffering from some significant bloat). I love how small the car is, how small it feels, and how willingly it changes direction because of it.
