Anyhow, just the muffler should fit. Any decent muffler shop should be able to retrofit to stock M2C.
The difference in sound can be attributed to having two turbos instead of a single twin-scroll.

If you take a closer look at this you'll notice every other cylinder exhaust cycle is skipped for one turbo in order to feed the other.

Far as I can tell the reason it does not sound as good as an N55 is because of the exhaust gets divided and is never recombined into one collector. The two turbos send the exhaust down two separate pipes the full length of the system. That in conjunction with the engine firing order and resonator are the most likely reasons it sounds the way it does. The n55 on the other hand uses a twin scroll turbo so the exhaust is never split and exits out a single exhaust pipe the full length of the system.

Hopefully it will be a glorious exhaust.

Otherwise $5K for an exhaust? That's a little on the high side.

Guys,

hereby an update directly from BMW M. The titanium MPE is planned for availability in April.

This is based on all final tests being signed off and no further changes in requirements happening.

The system will only be available in US and Canada, and nowhere else. Pricing is unknown at this stage.

I had the akra on my F80 and I can tell you all right now that it farts as hell, no good sound and if you install downpipes the sound gets worse, you will eventually find out.

Still looks pretty "tall", or like it will still be visible from the rear.

EDIT - these are from the Paris Auto Show. Looks the same as the picture in the original post to me.

On another note, I hope BMW used the M3 CS as a starting point for the M2C MPE - that's the best sounding S55 to my ears. It's pretty wicked...

Discoloration will make it look awesome, thanks to Titanium exhaust. Horay for US market vs lame Euro noise laws hopefully this doesn't spread though cops are cracking down on violators here in CA with $1000 fine.

It probably won't. BMW already addressed that issue on M3/M4 MPE v2 by adding a support bracket between the tips and the muffler. M2C MPE seems to have the same design according to released pics.

it's incredible how much mark up they make on these exhaust...just adding some carbon fiber tips, change the color of the steel, add M Performance on it and change the sound and you can sell it for 4000+$...

So they release an OEM exhaust alternative that is lighter, looks better and probably sounds better, and all the board whiners and expert complainers immediately go about their job.

Business as usual.

Boy, fake news about this never being released. They released the car in manual to cater to the u.s. market, why wouldn't they release the exhaust?
Looking forward to it, but really wondering if it will just make the nasty, raspy louder.

Here's a grainy clip of how the MP exhaust would sound:

They did not. They are two completely different systems (CS vs MPE).

The CS exhaust is based on the standard and Competition Pack exhaust and has a mid resonator. The MPE replaces the mid resonator with an H-pipe and has significantly different configuration for the rear muffler. The M2C MPE is clearly based on the M3/4 MPE.

I believe the M3/4cs particular sound mostly comes from the engine tune. My M4cs with MPE sounds very different than my previous 2015 M4 with MPE. It sounds cleaner with less farting. I also find my M4cs sounds much better with the MPE than it did stock.
