I have two friends that did the $100 deposit just so they could see more info and spec it. No actual intent of purchase. 2 year lead time which in Tesla speak is 3 years.

Sources within BMW have suggested that the new car could be seen by 2021 and that the car is likely to feature some form of electrification. So conception in 2021 then spy shot 2023 then show preview in 2025 as 2026 model.

Tell me which BMW Model has 200,000+ people paying $100 to get its spec?

It's sad how all these years Mercedes has been pumping out one halo sports car after another and Audi has had the R8 for over a decade. BMW has been twaddling its thumbs making dorky CUVs and i3s instead.

Don't forget hyping us up to think the new 8 series will serve as their halo car yet it was just a mid-tier GT. I'm guessing they sold enough X1s, X3s, & X5s to finally start playing catch-up. Hence the 2 series Gran coupe (which isn't needed imo)

And Mercedes did one thing properly that I don't think even BMW would be willing to do for their halo car (if we ever get one), they put hydraulic steering in the AMG GT for great and natural steering feel.

Truly commend the team at Affalterbach.

I would pay $100 right now to see the spec and some proper photos of the G8x.

Obviously BMW could learn a lot from Elon.

I really hope people don't consider those $100 "deposits" to mean much. I've put more down preordering a video game. Absolutely useless metric. I personally know a handful of people that bought it just to buy and never intend to purchase the truck. This isn't like the $1000 or $5000 deposits that they've taken for the 3 and roadster.

Again, which BMW model are 200,000+ people rushing to a BMW Dealer and putting down $100 for, refundable or not - in less than 100 hours?

To put it in perspective, BMW only sold 25,000 vehicles in the USA last month.

And at $20M+ and rising daily, we aren't talking small change.

If they announced a new M1 tomorrow and you could spec one out for a fully refundable $100 deposit that will save your place in line if you want to buy it, 90% of this forum would do so is my guess

Considering 37 posts in this thread and only 4,000 views, with some duplicate nicks, after it was sent out as a news alert, I seriously doubt it.

Just to play devil's advocate also most of them would request the refund because no one can actually afford it. Truck on the other hand...I'll guess they have a higher take rate.

You can see most of that without putting down a deposit. Are they doing that just to be able to configure it later? Likely the free configuration will be available not long after.
