In the configurator, I find the color of the 666m black wheel to be more similar to the 2QT 788m wheels. The 29u 788m jet black looks darker.

If you look at the full sized images from the UK configurator, this is what you get:

The 29U (on the right) is definitely not all black. Looks like a gun-metal.

Yes it does look darker than black 666M, BMW refers to the 666M finish as "shadow". The 29U 788M is referred to as "black".

And for comparison, I added a similar picture of the black 666m. From these pictures it seems like the 29U is similar.

I really wish BMW would just put out a full press kit - including all the wheel and paint options so we can make our decisions before the midnight hour (aka status 150)

Well that would really suck. Guess I'll be powder coating the wheels.

SO is so hard to get right. Depending on the lighting, it has 1000 different shades of something.

Take a look at this image. I took this personally.

This video is also of SO. Hard to get right.

You may recall there were questions regarding the wheels being all black from the thread "M2 Competition Sunset Orange Pictures". If you run the VIN on that SO M2c it shows that it was equipped with the "black" wheels. If however you look at the wheels on the car only the barrels are black, but the face is machined. Now look at post #27 in this thread, those may have be the black wheels all along.

Are you saying all the wheels we have seen so far are acutally the black wheels. Because the wheels on the SO car look identical to everything we've seen. Have we seen any 788's without black barrels?

There's so much confusion over the wheels. TBH I don't know what to believe anymore. All I'm saying is the VIN doesn't lie. I don't think we'll know for certain until people start getting their cars.

For me the most probable explanation for the lack of pictures of the black 29u wheels (despite VIN indicating otherwise) is that we were looking with wrong expectations. We were looking for the all black wheels, when the 29u option in reality may have a similar machined front finish as the "black" 666m wheels. The color seems to be difficult to capture accurately on camera. Personally, I prefer the dark machined front finish to gloss black. However, I am still uncertain if I should order the 29u or 2qt to get the dark machined front…

I'm not seeing any difference in the 788M wheels on the SO M2C vs anything else we have seen.

Could be that all of those cars are sporting the black wheels.

Welt M2C had 29U wheels apparently. Might have solved the black wheels question.
