Brake squeal

Ok so I know the manual says brake squeal is normal with new brakes for first 300 or so miles, but my brake squeal is getting worse. I'm at 650 miles and it's getting embarrassing when I'm cruising slowly and coming to a stop. Today was especially bad with the weather being around 32 degrees.

Is this normal?

I believe it is. Which sucks because I too am embarrassed. But it’s been 3k+ miles and my brakes squeal going slow/coming to a stop as well.

I’ve seen a bunch of people on here complain about this issue so I’m guessing it’s normal.

It is common on BMW's to get noise at run out. Aggressive metallic pads are most likely the cause your both experiencing.

Find a nice long deserted piece of road and drag your brakes using the left foot on the brake pedal and at the same time give it gas as well. Do this 3 or 4 times until your brakes are HOT and you can smell them.

You just bedded the pads. Since the rears don't do as much work they tend to take longer to get "married" to the rotors.

HAZMAT

A little squeal is normal. You can minimize it by doing a proper bedding procedure.

Here's a video I found helpful on properly bedding brake pads (thanks to Jeff at Essex):
