Installed carbon fiber mudflaps (front) from IND along with the M Performance pedal set. Very happy with both. The mud flaps greatly decreased the debris hitting the rear fender flare. This was an issue since installing spacers.

The M Performance pedals should have come on the car from the factory. They really stand out.

Day before yesterday: Crescent City, CA to Portland, OR.

Things were great-- and I found some of the best twisty roads on the planet, completely by accident.

I got caught in construction on the coast road, and it was going to be a while. The OEM Nav said I could divert through a bunch of VERY twisty backcountry roads and end up in Grants Pass (where I could get on I-5).

It. Was. Epic.

..... riiiiight up until the sign that said "Pavement Ends"-- 25 or so miles into the backcountry, with no cell coverage. The Nav was COMPLETELY unreasonable, so I had to backtrack way back until I got cell service and could figure out a way to go back, but far up enough to avoid the construction.

Grr. But the drive? Epic.

I picked up some Pinot's for the wife in the Willamette Valley, went to a bbq at a friend's house near Portland (and drank a bunch of sparkly bubbly I brought up from Napa). So, overall a good day.

Yesterday, my dad flew into PDX and we went to the Evergreen Aviation Museum and saw the Spruce Goose. Then we drove up to Gig Harbor. Dad's comment (as he hadn't seen the M2C in person yet)?

"Very. Nice. Car."

Heh.

Awesome update. Great to hear you got to check out some of the best wine spots on the west coast in one trip! I've done the drive from the Bay Area to Seattle but clearly missed the best stretches...

Also, what exhaust are you running? Liking the look!

Stock exhaust with BMS replica 95mm black chrome exhaust tips that I picked up from a forum member here. I believe I got the last set. I really like them.

I had a couple of other things done by the shop that did the audio upgrade.
First was an Escort Max 360 CI with Radar Mirror display. Yes, that's an M3 mirror and I actually prefer the shape.
Second was a Bimmertech front view camera - feedback to come later.

Can you take some additional shots of your front splitter? Mainly want to see how far out it extends.

Very interested in the front camera and rear view mirror. Did you have to program the the mirror?

It's an RW Carbon front lip which is a copy of the M Perf front lip.
I got it for cheap from a local already broken-in / scraped up.

Good pics can be found on the RW Carbon site - having an issue posting the link.

Good deal! Lips are always going to be scraped up. Might as well get one with a nice discount 👍

I don't think so ... It's from Radar_Mirror and they support a variety of vehicles and mirror types. I'm new to BMW so I don't know what a mirror swap typically requires.

Absolutely. Wait until you see the charcoal filters. Mine were puckered in like they were trying to get sucked up into the engine. My exhaust is loud and I can still hear spool I couldn't hear before. And I definitely feel more initial bite on throttle.

Could someone explain to me what the charcoal filters are intended to accomplish that the 'regular' air filters do not? I honestly do not know, but assume it is simply a more thorough 'filtering job' than the regular filters do on their own?

From memory, I believe they are filters to protect the environment and not your engine. Basically filtering out gas escaping rather than filtering intake air. I just removed these on Saturday and was amazed at how restrictive they were (visually) and how much in 2300 miles the pleats had puckered in toward the engine. I'll add a picture of them to this post before EOD.

Bimmerpost is such a wealth of information that sometimes it is hard coral all the information and draw conclusion . . . hard to see the forest through the trees, so to speak.

So, seems you have done your homework and decided on (1) removing the charcoal filters; and (2) dropping in the AFE magnum Flow Pro 5R Air Filters.

I replaced the stock air filters in my Macan Turbo with (non-oiled) high-flow air filters. The result was a subtle, but noticeable increase in turbo spooling and throttle response. In short, a very inexpensive and what I felt to be a worthwhile endeavor.

The oiled filters seem a common choice among S55 owners, and the lengthy threads seem to always digress into the matter of unwanted oil distribution and sensor activation (e.g., MAF). Not sure if these are anecdotes or common problems? With this in mind, did you come across or consider any non-oiled high-flow air filters?

Thank you for addressing my prior charcoal filter question.

I saw too many stories of CELs being thrown after dropping in the oiled K&N, BMS, and AFE. Since I'm aware of people pulling the charcoal filters and leaving the stock filters, I felt the most comfortable doing a dry performance filter. I told myself I'd return them and go back to the drawing board if I wasn't impressed with the quality of the AFE dry filters when they arrived. Full disclosure, I am not an air filter product engineer (no one is shocked) but they seemed just as comprehensive as the oem filter. The filter didn't bend, felt very dense, and had a high quality metal mesh screen.

Do I feel the afe filters? Probably not. I'm sure I'm feeling and hearing the result of charcoal pull alone mostly. But I do feel better with the afe dry over oem or oiled aftermarket for the S55.

Edit: Added a picture of one of the charcoal filters pulled out at ~2300 miles. Unsurprisingly, my OEM filters were very clean after just double the break-in service mileage. On the other hand, I was very surprised at how puckered both charcoals were as you can see in my picture towards the top pleats. The OEM filter on the bottom is as it would would sit in the air box. The charcoal clips into the "roof" of the stock air box and you use a flat head to pry it out (easy). The charcoal is upside down in the picture as it was easier to show the "valley" rather than the "mountain" of where it was pulled upward/inward toward the engine.

Thank you Klein!

I'm not a mechanic either, so a lot of what I've done and learned has come through a few leaps of faith and hard lessons to go along with mostly satisfactory results.
