Sit tight and listen keenly!! . if you are this frazzled after one month... of allocations.. .. beware the possibilities...

Spoke with my CA last week he said his allocations usually come out on the 10th of every month so he should have some more info next week. This is just outside of Philly. We will see fingers crossed

I just checked on the BMW internal website. A lot of dealers in the North East did not get allocations. However West Coast, Central, and Southern Dealers did...

That's what you Northern guys get for hogging all the xDrive cars!!!

I like how they spin it as being due to extremely large order bank rather than ridculuously low production as the reason.

BMW will continue to be BMW.

Production numbers are going to be slim.

However I am anxious to see how this plays out.

Will production increase? Or will we continue to see 1-3 allocations every 2-3 months?

They've already planned this year's production, and we already know the numbers based on the sales rep info provided at the beginning of the calendar year. Next year they will retool Leipzig to meet demand, so I'd imagine numbers would at least double. Need to wait 8 more months to see what next year's allocations will be.

If you say so....

I for one cannot believe that BMW would not know how successful this car would be after the clear precent in the 1M.

Actually not, as the allocations were provided for the calendar year rather than the model year.

Am I misunderstanding what driver37 said below?

I believe they didn't anticipate initial demand and weren't willing to invest in factory upgrades early on. The factory used to produce this car is currently only equipped to produce a certain volume of M2s. This is of course considering the factory must also produce other, even higher-demand BMWs. BMW management has already said in an interview they'd retool later to meet M2 demand. I believe BMW would have produced more M2s if they knew, but they planned out allocations for the whole year, in advance, with their production limits in mind. There is no "if you say so", because this is what they in fact did.

Again. With FIVE years of people looking for 1Ms .. Really. I would seriously call that borderline incompetent. Screw that - too polite. WHOLLY INCOMPETENT.

Instead I prefer to call it brilliant marketing strategy. BMW is selling M2 sizzle but serving a different steak at your dealer

Sizzle- M2
Sirloin- M235i
T bone - M3
Porterhouse -M4

MY2017 starts in July, no one said otherwise. But we have to wait until calendar year 2017 (hence 8 more months) to see what next year's allocations will be. Make sense?

I think it's rather a matter of bottom line, like any business. The only thing they could have done is to delay the introduction if they wanted higher initial production volume.
