What is stage two actually like?
Lots of talking about modding the M2 N55 to stage 2 making 420-430bhp I believe?
But little feedback about pros and cons. Is the car still enjoyable? I'm presuming so as BMW have out similar power into the M2C. Can you still mash the loud pedal and put the power down or so wheels spin and you actually end up with a slower car? I had my previous car tuned after years (3+!) Of thinking about it and best way I can describe it is it woke the car up and made it weightless in acceleration. Wax lyrical at me people Last edited by 3t3p; 03-31-2020 at 04:12 PM.. |

I think you've already said it, it just wakes the car up, makes it feel lighter during acceleration, and feels like it was intended to be that way from the factory. I think it's more enjoyable in the higher rpm's as well, and because of the supporting mods you need, like the downpipe, it sounds better too. It's just an overall better experience that's easily worth the cost IMO.

Totally agree with the above. I was on stage 1 for a short time but wasn't happy with it as it was too compromised.
Stage 2 is amazing though! It has plenty of low down shove but also a great top end. It very noticeably pushes you into the back of the seat throughout the rev range. Traction has not been an issue at all with ps4s. I dd my car. Do it! You'll love it! |

If worried about traction - reduce rear camber more towards -1.5deg and you'll be amazed at the amount grip this gives to the rear end of the car both in a straight line for traction and also in the corners. My car is my DD and does ~ 6 TD's/pa running 18" 245/265 MPSS

~30% throttle in 3rd gear will spin my 285" brand new winter rear tires in 40F dry weather with DSC off. I'm not sure for how long. I usually hit the gas, the rear gets a little sideways, then I shift and let off probably around 4000rpm... I don't remember what it was like with the factory tune, it's been years since I wasn't tuned.
It doesn't slow down the car though, you just have to ease into the throttle or use traction control. Anyone that knows how to drive will be faster in a Stg2 M2 than a OEM M2 or even M2C. I will say that the full potential of Stg2 isn't usable on the street. At least not on my streets. I live in a small city. Stop signs and lights every block. And it's very rare I leave the city to get to open the car up. Also very rare I get to shift above 4500rpm. Last edited by Anthony1s; 12-24-2019 at 10:07 AM.. |

Hmm I'm not sure then as the car feels well balanced ATM. I can mash the throttle and put power down but still have some squirming in second (and parts of third, sometimes) such that I have fun and make progress.
There is something to be said for physically having your foot flat rather than titrating power IMO, even if you're going slightly slower. I might do fmic, metal/silicone upgrade pipes and pure turbos inlet first and see where I'm at. Tyres right now are MPSS but would change to PS4S next of it makes any difference, I know from my last car how grippy the PS4S are! Last edited by 3t3p; 03-31-2020 at 04:14 PM.. |

There is a tradeoff off and loss of steering feel for all that grip though. I have gts coded steering and with the pss (245/265) and the steering was great - tbh I wouldn't have wanted any more steering feel as there was loads coming through, but now there is less than I would like. I may get some more alloys and run pcs in the Summer and have the ps4s as my winters. |

Did you code the GTS DCT software to your car. I've had this flashed to mine and it is terrible and doesn't suit the N55 engined cars. I now have to wait until the guy who did it is back nearer to where I live as I would like taken off asap. I do have the other GTS software coded which is fine it's just the gearbox software that has to go back to standard. |

I'm in a manual so don't have that. From what I understand dct gts is more like a remap of the gearbox module, rather than just the fairly simple coding that changes other gts aspects. |

I love my chip tune. I did the supporting mods like intercooler, catless dp, inlet, diverter valve, intake etc.. pushing 395 whp and daily drive it. I got an RK tunes tune and I noticed the throttle response is much greater in higher gears. It feels faster but the biggest change I noticed is the power at low rpms in high gears. It totally woke up the car!

I'm on the BM3 Stage 2 91 octane OTS map (but use 93 exclusively) and the car is faster for sure, but I also feel like there is more lag. Also, the car isn't any more fun to drive, it's just faster. I'm wearing 280 treadwear Yokohama V601's in 255/35 & 275/35 and don't get any more grip than stock really.
Supporting mods are: Fabspeed catted down pipe, Mad Dad charge pipe, and CSF intercooler |
