M2C - Wireless Charger - iPhone gets HOT
My phone gets pretty hot when charging in the car.
Even short durations. Went for a 20min ride yesterday and it was burning up and charged the phone like 5% maybe. iPhone 8. I use a wireless charger on my desk and its totally fine. Anyone else experienced this? |

+1 A number of folks have mentioned this, and I've read that it's probably due to the fact that the wireless charging in the M2 is less than perfectly efficient - lots of waste heat. Here's what I've found: 1. If you use maps on your phone for any extended period of time, then the phone will heat up like crazy - found this to be the case whether I was plugged in via USB or using wireless charging. Maps simply use a ton of processing power with resulting heat. One time, when I was using maps and wirelessly charging at the same time, the phone got so hot it shut itself down 2. If I charge the phone wirelessly without using maps (use phone for music, phone calls, etc.) then it doesn't heat up excessively My experience, thus far. |

It's just the built in phone warmer.

Inductive charging is about getting the charging coil exactly positioned over the receptor inside the device. Failure to get these aligned perfectly produces wasted energy during the transmission - and this energy becomes heat.

You can also qualify for the DINAN iPhone charm but only if you also get the DINAN iPhone cable, sold separately...

Are you using a case by chance? I'm using a leather case but if it get hot I might take the case off.

If you are using a wallet case, be warned that charging with cards that have a contactless payment chip, or a metal card (amex) will also cause this heating effect and can also damage the cards.

There is. But better thinking is probably just to use a USB to lightning cable. It will charge the phone much faster, plus, in my non wireless charging car the space in there easily accommodates the Xs Max very securely. Just make sure the power button faces the back seat. Otherwise you will accidentally call emergency services every time you put the phone in there.

Wireless charging has been shown to lead to increased phone battery deterioration. I'd definitely avoid it if possible.

Yeah, the heat causes significant battery deterioration. I totally wouldn't do it on a regular basis, except I signed up for the Apple iPhone program, so effectively I'm just leasing my phone on a yearly basis. So, I just need the battery to last 12 months! Ha!
