It looks like an Audi S5 from the side, a Lexus from the rear and a BMW mutant from the front. That being said, it will be a great Autobahn cruiser. It gets a fail for twisty duty.
I read an article about the recently revealed 440i coupe. It has electric assist and is 4 wheel drive. |

You can move more mass with more power . . . but cannot hid the mass when it comes to chassis dynamics. Still, the M4 is a sporty coupe - not a sport car - and I am sure it strikes a great balance toward performance and daily drivability. Personally, my subjective view on body design is that BMW has lost their way throughout the model lineup. ///AVM |

No M4 for me because its a boat, so i dont care. however, looking at this new one, the front doesn't offend me too much, but the sides and rear really do. It is so japanese/korean car looking...forced shapes and lines.
Based on those leaked partial next gen 2 series shots, its looks butt ugly too. I hope the M2 doesnt look like that... |

My master plan for a while was to wait and get a G80 when they came out as I prefer sedans. After seeing the G20, there wasn't much change from the F30 that got me excited, and started wondering if the same would be true of the F80 to G80. Then the grill photo's were leaked... That's when I really started considering the F87. I'm not seeing anything with the G series vehicles that would make me want to get it over the F-series. The tech is newer, but beyond that, they're bigger and heavier. I am very happy with my decision to get the M2C.

Originally was shocked, horrified, and downright offended about those kidney grills. Can you even call them that anymore?
However... Those grills have grown on me. And now I'm to the point where I actually like them. Now I feel about the rear end like I originally felt about the kidney grills. *shudder* And, no. I will not be getting one. I just jumped on the last ED for the M2C because 1) it's ED 2) it's a M2C and 3) I'm worried what the next gen M2 will look like. |

hard pass for so many reasons. next to the M2C, the current M4 is a cash grab never mind the next one.

Surprised no one mentioned about the lack of power dome...isn't that lump a idiosyncratic guise of a proper M car...
I understand that innovative look is much desired in this day and age but at least some hereditary trait should remain embossed in the design language of an important BMW M car. If one takes away the BMW badge, the car can be from any manufacturer and therefore is a nobody and that to me represents a huge design flaw. |

It doesn't really elicit an emotional response from me...and therein lies its problem. The grill doesn't bother me as much as others, but overall I just kinda find the car to be "meh".
Then consider no manual and it's size and I'm even more apathetic about it. Looking forward to seeing it in person to see if it does anything for me then. But until that point I will continue to pat myself on the back for my F87 purchase...I can't look at her enough

My biggest issue with BMW it’s bizarre “need” to keep changing it’s looks beyond its core lines. BMW should take a page from Porsche’s lazy design evolution of the 911. Changing too drastic is how you loose your identity and decades of product recognition you spent millions promoting. I have to genuinely like what my cars look like regardless of their performance so if BMW goes down this road, I will leave them like I did I Audi. Last edited by MystroX5; 06-07-2020 at 10:41 AM.. |

At the risk of "stepping in it," I'll offer a contrarian take: 1. I think we have to recognize that we forum members are part of the "enthusiast" demographic, which probably comprises some vanishingly small percentage of BMW's target consumers. I gotta guess that the "median buyer" (let's call him Greg) is some punter who got a bigger than expected tax return, wandered onto the sales lot, and just decided to pick up a new car, because the tax return is gonna cover the monthly payment. Given that, BMW's primary mission is to cater to that "median buyer" - not us enthusiasts. We don't count. We're a rounding error when it comes to sales for the company 2. As such, I'm guessing that BMWs (and all cars) continue to get bigger and heavier because of a) a constantly growing set of regulations handed down by the evil empire, b) safety, c) sound deadening, d) it's what Greg wants. Funny, but even amongst the enthusiast community, on this forum, we see a lot of "stated preference" for smaller, lighter cars, and there are about 831,435 lines of commentary in every thread hating on the M2's weight... and yet, if you go through that awesome "what other cars are in your garage?" thread, of the 963 posts, you only find like 2 forum members who have Lotus'es. So, what "revealed preference" seems to show is that even amongst us enthusiasts, the most we'll do is give lip service to how we want lower weight in our cars, but then when it comes to actually putting our money where our mouths are, well... we all seem to be a bit hypocritical (myself included)! 3. As for the design, EVERYONE hated on the connected kidney grill on the M2C for like 6 months... and now everyone loves the way the M2C looks. Everyone hated on 788 wheels, and now it seems that most folks are fine with them. Everyone hated on HS when it was introduced as the launch color, and yet now there are lots of threads pointing out how beautiful the color is. I suspect that new designs are always going to alienate the enthusiast community. But, over time, everyone gets used to the new thing. Also, I'm guessing Greg doesn't care. Greg has no idea what a classic BMW should look like. He's got his stimulus check from the Orange Man (Orange Man's name is on the check!), and he's always heard that BMWs are nice cars, and he's wandered onto the lot and is checking out which car will meet his monthly payment limit 4. Finally, if a) the design is so bad that it truly will alienate Greg, and if b) the weight is so awful that even Greg will balk at the car, then there's this beautiful, amazing, life affirming, soul-enriching, wondrous, magical thing called capitalism that will ensure that all is right in the world. If Greg doesn't like the design, if Greg doesn't like the weight, sales of the car will be terrible, that will get reflected in the product P&L, the entire product team heading up the 4-series will get fired, and BMW will have learned its lesson and go in a different direction and give the market what the market actually wants Regardless, I think it'll be super fascinating to see what happens. |

IIRC, a manual has been confirmed for the G82, just not with the AWD most likely. I actually think they should drop the manual from the G82... it's just too big.

It's no longer sleek and snappy, thus, this new design not fitting for a manual option, it's now more of a powerful touring car, sort of like a mini-M5. What a shame, the BMW M3 name used to sell itself, now you have take a blindfold to the dealer, just to stomach making the purchase and then "Bird Box" the delivery |
