M2 CS vs 2020 Audi TT RS: which one should I get ?

On the M2 CS waitlist but debating to get 2020 TT RS instead. If I do get a chance to get an M2 CS allocation which should I get?

The question is do you want a drift machine with 4 seats and hauling space or do you want a 4 wheel drive 2 seater car with little storage space. There is no wrong answer.

I was in a similar boat, went with the M2C for the stick shift.

Well the M2 CS will be more rare. Supposedly TT RS is not selling well and won't get another generation.

M2 CS all the way!

I think the M2 CS will be more rare and also more fun to drive.

Test drive the lower tier models.

I’ve owned 2018 ttrs and 2019 M2c. If it’s not your only car and awd is not needed the M2 is the way to go. Ttrs is fast but not much feel. Personally today i dropped my M2cs order and I placed it with the new c8 vetted . For 60k you really can’t beat it but one way to find out for sure.

TTRS is impressive. For me the CS would be less sterile and more raw/hooligan. And agree that the CS will be more special over time.

Good 4 part series from drive tribe:

I just wanted a fast, small, German sports coupe. I regret not spending the extra to get a TTRS.

That comparison video is with an M2. The M2 Comp has a lot more torque.

And the OP talks about M2 CS.
I think that the TTRS is less practical, faster in the lower speeds (not sure about upper speeds) and will be more noticed (if important for OP).
M2 (doesn't matter which gen) will be more involving and more fun to drive. Will be more practical. It'll sound better (in my opinion. I had an RS3 before the M2).

I test drove the ttrs. No contest which car has the nicer interior but from a driving perspective, like someone else said, it didn't have much of a feel...found it to be a bit numb vs m2

This was a fun lap at Roebling Road Raceway. The TTRS had a tune (~ 500hp). Awesome looking package! I prefer the 6MT in my car but I don't think you can go wrong with either.

The TT RS's problem has always been that it's a car that exists in automotive no-mans-land. It isn't as practical as the M2C and barely outperforms it if at all. When you go compare to other sports cars, it often doesn't look great when you compare it to a Cayman or Corvette.

If understeer is the best thing in the world get the RS ( its rumored they are ending production for TT/R8). If you wanna have a fun drive get the M2.

TTRS is a neat vehicle. Some of my thoughts -

Pros
-unique 5cyl is amazing and sounds incredible - nothing like it

-quattro is great

-overall looks are good inside and out

Cons
-non-existent back seats and tiny rear windows - even though the M2 rear seats aren't great, they accommodate my kids just fine and there is great visibility for them too

-tiny rear brakes that look ridiculous - even if you spec ceramics you get tinsy winsy rears - could be remedied with replacements or a wheel setup that hides them

-while the digital cockpit looks really cool today, it will not age well - the advancements on screens are too quick - it will seem old and slow before you know it

I owned a 2018 TTRS. Now have a M2 comp. The M2 manual is more fun & playful. The stand out for TTRS is the launch control. It feels like a 911 turbo. The TTRS may be slightly faster due to the automatic vs. the manual, but it's more like a video game, a bit numb.

My advice would be neither. Save yourself a bucket load of money and get the 'regular' M2 competition. It won't have the street 'kudos' but the weight/performance/handling delta just isn't there to justify the price differential. Save the money for the kids / wife / mods / next car. Even the OG M2 was phenomenal to drive and unless you are tracking (well) you probably won't exploit the potential.

TTRS - Go fast machine with wonderful sound. If winters are cold and snowy then the quattro makes it a year round machine (life is too short to not enjoy these things year round) but subjectively it doesn't have the feel of the M2.

At the end of the day however, and I guess like others may have said to you before, test drive them and see which speaks to you most: a big part of sports car buying is an emotional and personal thing and the logical arguments I have made don't hold a candle to that!

Good video of just that.
