Unhappy RIP M2C - 2018: Totaled after a month (Warning! Sensitive Content) 2019: I am back!!!

So... Let me begin by saying that I always wanted an M car. I sold my 2014 Audi TTRS and waited a year to get my hands on the M2C. Purchased at Open Road BMW in NJ (since allocations in NY were almost impossible) from Santiago Piriz (Best Sales Man). I had lots plants for this project but since the car was delivered in October I decided to wait before stating to modify it because winter is already here. I wanted to drive it until the break in service and then store it away until Spring 2019. Anyways, lets get to the details... I was driving home from work on the FDR drive in NYC when all of a sudden my car span out of control and I hit the wall. Worse feeling even. I am still traumatized and will be for a long time. After hitting the wall I was confused. I did not know how the hell I ended up crashing until a nice lady who came running towards my car offering to help told me. My first question was WTF happened? why was my car spinning out of control? The nice lady who came to check on me said that I was hit in the rear and that's why I ended up on the wall. So I asked her who hit me and she said, the person behind you was switching lanes trying to exit the highway and after hitting you he just kept going and we did not see his license plate, SORRY! This happened last week at 2:30 pm. Thank god no other cars were involved and I came out of the car in one piece. (Super safe car).

I feel like I never had the car since I barely drove it and never got to drive it the way is supposed to be driven.

500 miles, a month old!
RIP MC2

Car has been declared totaled. $66k in damages.
PLEASE BE CAREFUL OUT THERE! and GET GAP INSURANCE because you never know....

Oh boy.... it hurts to see and read this. Sorry for your loss man!

But, you are alive and that is what matters most. Ordering the same spec once more won't be an issue as well, so you can look already forward to the second delivery!

Oh my... Be happy it is only the car, at least you are fine!

It is clear you were hit from the back.

Take care and hopefully you are back in a M2C soon

Good thing is you're ok. You can always order another car. Looked like it was stock, so at least you don't lose any $$ on mods that you potentially couldn't recover.

Is that an airbag in the footwell??

Sorry for loss; most importation is that you're find and fully covered..

Anyways, summer tires in winter could of cause your vehicle to lose control, as you did. I'm speaking from raw experience, not just a anecdotal opinion.

I spun my 135i around a turn, in 35 degree weather, on newish summer tires (PSS), many winters ago and learned my lesson ever since.

I had figure although I was using summer tires in the winter, they were fairly new, with a lot of tread on them, so 'logically' they should of been acceptable for winter traction. I was wrong.

Live and learn.. Winter tires are not just for snow; invest in the proper seasonal tires..

Yes it is. Super safe car!
I had a few cosmetic mods. Nothing crazy.

Absolutely man! This happened at 35-40 MPH. I remember trying to recover the car after spinning around but i felt like i was ice skating.

Sorry that happened to you, good thing is you are OK.

I had similar situation on M3 with under 500-mile tires, scary situation mid corner + aggressive throttle input (I was still thinking I was driving my AWD 335i with N55 I guess). good thing, I was able to recover before hitting the wall.
The tires grip is better after 1500-miles, and I am not even trying to go crazy in the rainy day nowadays, even in straight line, redlining on MDM mode can get you in trouble.

Man, seeing this hurts, totaling a brand new ride is one of my greatest fears. They say karma's a bitch, hopefully the other driver gets some dealt his way.

Hopefully you can find your way back into another M2C soon!

Poor M2C - but glad you're ok - that's the main thing!

I've been in a few accidents, one in my VW Jetta GLI and one in my E92 328i, and I was amazed at how well the cars protected me. I love being in a German car for that reason, whether there's anything to it or not - definitely a piece of mind thing.

Looks like the M2C was a protective tank for you - and she was beautiful before she went down in the line of duty. Hope you get another one soon!

You're are back on the forum, so the recovery process has begun. The car stayed glued together nicely, testament to a well built car that saved you from injury, cannot ask for anything more than that! Well done M2C.

Glad you are safe! That's the most important thing and only thing that matters in such situations.

Car is just an object and can be replaced easily.

Hope you can get another M2C soon! Super safe car and fun!

Also did you file a police report? This is a classic hit and run case.

On public roads it's better to keep the M car revvs less than 5K rpm. Anything more can get the wheels spinning and you never know.

NYC drivers. Par for the course. I'd sooner drive through a blizzard than any parts of NYC.

Yeah man! I did but the officer was very honest with me and said “since you’re ok, chances are that they will not investigate further”.

Thank you all. Hopefully I get to Place another order because I have that bitter sweet sensation after waiting for so long and not being able to enjoy the car...

Don’t forget to pay a few extra dollars for the GAP INSURANCE. Very important option to add when buying a car like this.

I live in NYC and drivers here just love to tailgate, especially if you have a nice vehicle..

There would be three lanes on a highway and some other a-hole in a shitbox will constantly ride your ass, instead of switching over to an open lane.. I am always in fear that I would have to make an emergency stop and jackass pacing behind me, with possible less capable brakes, would just slam into me.

I used to think I was just paranoid or mental until I did a social experiment and I drove a hoopty (crappy car). Immediately, I'd notice that the tailgating stopped and no one paid any mind to me..

I know the FDR drive and I already pictured how the accident happen with the OP. However, I will say that driving with summer tires didn't help with him regaining control, as they were probably hard as rocks, in the current 30 - 40 degrees climate.
