Diggin the M Performance Shifter
The throws feel smoother and the grip is so much nicer. Strongly recommend picking it up if you're on a 6MT.

Yes! Got the same and love it. Stock shifter felt big and imprecise. The smaller and lower performance shifter really improved the shift feel. More than I thought it could.

So is this an actual improved short-throw shifter, or just the M-Performance CF shift knob? I'm not finding a shifter anywhere
If so, I might have found my first mod if it's actually a shifter (...prior to breaking it in and going BM3 of course) |

Nice, is it a short shift kit, or just a cosmetic knob and gaiter?
BMW short shift kit was awesome on my 335i a few years back. BMW one looks different: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=03_4048 Is yours not a BMW item? |

I doubt a knob would improve the overall shift feel by much. Does anyone know if there are replacement bushings or shift kits available to help tighten the shift feel? Stock feels kinda rubbery.

There is only one way to do it that i know of. The original E46 part was almost the same as the short shifter of the E9x, identical bushing.
...Plug n play

For me it was an improvement. Mainly because of the weighting and the shorter height of the m performance shifter. As for bushings I don’t think you’ll see any improvement there. If you put the shifter in any gear and try to wiggle it around, there is virtually no play. Short shifter might be a better answer but I’ve heard horror stories, specifically to installation, worse feel, and weirdly enough the shifter sometimes isn’t straight.

It is best to have someone you don't really like too much pull off the old shifter, tell them your wrist is sprained. Instruct them to pull like the Hulk.

I punched myself right in the face. It takes quite a bit of force to get it off!!!
