My M2 on Tail of the Dragon!!!

Just a few pics of our trip to the Tail of the Dragon last weekend. We had a pretty diverse group of cars including a couple of M2s, McLaren 720s, Lamborghini Huracan, Lotus Exige & Exige S, Mustang GT500, 2 C7 Corvette Z06s & grand sport, plus several more.

LOVE TOTD, went there in my S2000 in 2001. Great time.

Forgive me, but damn your wheel/tire combo looks awesome. Specs? Rubbing?

Nice 👍 I actually went in 2002 in my 1999 Subaru Impreza 2.5RS...great times.

No problem. I'm running Vorsteiner VFF-106 19x9.5 et22 in Front & 19x10.5 et34 in Rear. Michelin MP4S 265/30 in Front & 295/30 in Rear. Vorshlag camber plates w/ KW V3 coilovers @ -1.8 front & -2.2 rear camber.

At this ride height and 9/12 clicks compression & 13/16 clicks rebound, I barely rub in the rear on very high compression dips on the highway. It just rubs the plastic fender liner a bit, with no marks or damage to the tires at all.

This setup is very neutral with no understeer/oversteer to speak of. I could even do with a bit of chassis stiffening up front for a more crisp turn in. Maybe M2C carbon strut brace.

Awesome pics and sweet group of cars! I went for the first time last year with a group of friends and were planning to do yearly trips down from Michigan because we had such a good time. The photographers do an amazing job too

Nice! My M2C finally earned its dragons about a month ago. It was a wet weekend so I wasn't going for fast times but it was still fun.

I always stop at the souvenir places and get dragon stickers for my cars having driven 9 different BMWs on the dragon!

Yes we did. We came up from North Atlanta on 400 and hit all the best roads. We hit the Dragon from West to East and then came home on 28 (I think) through Franklin, NC.

I'm going again on the 18th of this month for the Dragon Rally II, a sponsored event from a Facebook group called Smoky Mountain Drives. I'm so excited to run though again...without the rain this time.

Both have their place, The Dragon for consistent tight corners and the Cherohola for fast sweepers. On both, you could be caught going way over the speedlimit.

Nice collection of cars!
I trailered my S2000 to the dragon back in 2008 from Michigan, but never went when I lived in Knoxville a few years ago. Lol
Would love to take my M2 for a run in the near future!
Thanks for sharing the pics!

I've been on the skyway more times than I care to share on bikes etc and have seen law enforcement once. The dragon is a novelty item and always packed, had maybe 2-3 good runs in all the times I've been there even in weekdays. I'll take 28 and wayah RD anyway over the dragon.

The secret is to get the runs in early morning weekdays, no later than 9am. I've had plenty of clean runs on the Dragon. And much of the time, cars will move over. I've done well over 50 runs over the years in 9 different BMWs from an e39 M5, to an X5 50i to my latest M2 Comp! Although this past visit had bad weather and rain so I couldn't run too hard.

I was there on Wednesday around 3:30pm or so, and had very little traffic, and zero law enforcement. My first time there, so was taking it easy, but had a blast!

That 3rd pic in the first post is an awesome shot. Looks so aggressive. I could do without the glare but the angle is killer!

That's one of my favorites too. Killboy.com got some great shots as we went through our route.
