I don't know anything about the Conti's, but 71R's suck on the street! Loud, noisy, and uncomfortable just for a few autox a year, IMO.

I would pick ECS for sure. They are much better than PSS and they will outlast the RE71R's. I've heard people putting up to 10k onto the Bridgestone's but most people that daily them and track them only get around 5k so you're much better off with ECS. I haven't compared them to the new MP4S, but my guess would be that the ECS is better.

Thanks! Just the advice I was looking for.

TR likes the 4S over the Conti for both performance and comfort: https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tests...y.jsp?ttid=223

Neither will match the grip of the 71R, but I’ve been impressed with the relative grip, comfort, and longevity of my 4S’s over the last 2yrs.

No doubt about the 4S. I just hate the price. But you do get what you pay for. Also, I never really liked Super Sports that came with the car.

Something to keep in mind:

Michelin performance tires tend to last longer than Conti performance tires, so the cost difference isnt that much, especially when factoring in more frequent mounting/balancing with Conti’s. I don’t know if that’s still the case with the ECS’s or not.

I’m at 18k miles and 6-7 track days on my PS4S’s and they still have 1/3 life left.

All this said, I’d find a cheap scuffed up set of OEM wheels and mount some 71R’s on them for autox/track days.

I run federal rs-rr 255/35 18, they run wide. The main thing I was looking for is cost effectiveness. The federals are perfect as they last longer than my mpss, have more grip, and can withstand more heat.

No they won't get me the best times but I don't care as I'm going to the track to improve my skills. I'm an intermediate level driver and I'm only comparing lap times against myself. I've seen plenty of other "faster on spec sheet" cars running sport cups and nittos and they're running around the same times as me. (slow)

Running the federals at 450 a set vs the aforementioned brands at 1k+ allows me to spend that money on track days and hotels. Also I don't feel so bad when I mess up and go into a long sideways skid and flat spot a single tire and now have to replace all 4.

Cool man, hadn’t heard of those. Here’s a good review: https://www.carthrottle.com/post/y87my78/

Looks like they’d make for a great cheap square setup. If they only had wider sizes for a staggered setup...

Actually planning on running these this year. Going with a 275/35r18 square setup on apex EC-7 18x10s. Have a set of Hoosier R7s on there right now, but am slightly concerned running those as I've never tracked the M2, and I know slicks are not the most forgiving.

I've seen good stuff written about firestone firehawk 500 as well. Tirerack has a decent review of them.

My research showed me that for federals add 10 for the section width. My 255s are really 265. Don't know how wide you want to go, but that might help

Appreciate that. I’m in the 295/305 club and once you go there, it’s hard to go back to square. So, don’t do it.

Are they 10 wider than the advertised section width for them? Trying to compare to the hoosier R7's I have now. Need to fit for spacers, and am not sure if I'll be ordering the federals before that happens.

Checked the specs on them:

The Federal RS-RR 275/35r18's have a section width of 10.9".
The Hoosier R7 275/35r18 have a section width of 10.7".

Thats around 5mm wider on the Federals. Will have to keep that in mind when I get my spacers figured out for suspension clearance. Was going to try to go as close as possible to the suspension (3mm was recommended from Apex), but it looks like I'll need to go slightly farther to fit RS-RR's later. Probably want 8-10mm clearance from suspension to be safe.

I ran the fire hawks on summit main on my 535 over a 3 days weekend in August and they held up great. Highly recommend them if you are not chasing seconds and you can get a set for $750 installed.

Has anyone tried Yoko’s ADO8R’s? I had them on my GTI many moons ago and liked them. These would be a replacement for the PSS in my OEM wheels. I wants to arrive and drive, no swapping wheels/tires.

I tossed my factory Contis and put these on....I drive them to the track and swap out to my Rcomps/slicks. When it's wet or I am too lazy to put on my track wheels I run these and they are great.....good grip and wear like iron. On the street they behave well without excessive noise.

Was considering them, but found some close-out Dunlop Direezza 11 at Tire Rack for a nice discount. They sound like good tires from what I read.

Question Do I need a spacer up front for 275/35-18 NT01's?

Question: Do I need a spacer up front for 275/35-18 NT01's?

Context: '16 M2 - I've ran 265/35-18 RE71s for 2 seasons now and have got a set of 275/35-18 NT01s mounted on Apex FL-5 9.5" ET28s. My M2 has MP coilovers, lowered 10mm up front and GC camber plates set at -2.75.

My initial test drive went well with what I think (don't know for sure) was very slight contact with the coilovers and only very minor rubbing with inner well at full turn (won't happen on track).

Thus the question if I need a 5mm spacer up front? I'm thinking I might order a pair of 5 mm spacers just in case I need them.

Anyone else running this setup?

I'm on a similar setup, square 275/35 18 NT01s and with Bilstein lowered suspension with -3.2 camber, albeit on 18x10 ET33 Apex wheels. I run 12mm spacers up front. I haven’t experienced any rubbing issues.

You should be able to visually check if there is enough gap between your tire and coilover spring.
