Help with SCCA classification

Please help me with classification for autocross.

Intercooler and downpipe. Regular tires and stock suspension. BS? STU? It's confusing.

thanks!

My guess is one of the prepared or modified classes. M2s can’t run in STU, and your mods move you out of BS.

Thanks. Now I'm even more confused though. I was told STU is the way to go; why can't M2 be in this class?

Downpipe ---> STU
Downpipe + Intercooler ---> *SP

M2 can run STU because it meets the NOC requirements.

From the October 2017 Fastrack:

#22356 Please class BMW 1M & BMW M2
The STAC would like to thank you for your input. The committee believes that the BMW
1M and M2 do not fit well within the Street Touring ruleset due to limited availability.

Even it it was allowed in STU, I believe that only STH class cars are allowed intercooler changes. It would appear your car would be stuck in ASP. This is one of "those" situations where on a typical autox course, the car would barely be any faster than a stock M2, but it gets stuck into a class with much faster and far better prepared cars (and if no competitor still stuck with a horrid PAX multiplier).

Thanks for posting. Another letter will be sent shortly since the M2 is in no way a limited production vehicle @ 5823 units.

Yeah I am beginning to see how this is not a good thing for me. I built my car for the street, and just discovered I like autoX. I don't think an M2 with M3 power (my stage two) is any faster at autoX than a regular M2, particularly since I have no suspension, brake or tire mods (and don't plan any.)
On the bright side I'm in novice class right now so this doesn't seam to matter yet. I am trying out a new autoX club this weekend (not SCCA) and I emailed the organizer who told me to go with STU.

Worth a try. That opinion was rendered 18 months ago. Things have changed.

I think the OP should look at the cup half full and start shopping for some A7's.

Did we get any further clarification on this? Seems like the M2 is BS and the M2C is AS: https://solo.stlscca.org/wp-content/...le-Classes.pdf

Seems like most mods (even pretty tame ones) push you into BSP/ASP, which feels like a pretty big leap (not about to buy slicks...). Might as well just run STO and be competitive in BS/AS when doing BMW club events ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The M2 and M2C are in B-street. Your link is outdated. Look at the national SCCA site where the 2020 rules are located. The F8x M3 and M4 are now in B-street also.

Quick look over the 2020 rules which have the M2 listed in B Street, A Street Prepared, and E Street Prepared (Limited Prep) (Page 214), the latter of which seems... wrong?

Is the M2C confirmed to be in STU going forward?

The M2C and ZL9 are not included in the current proposal. See 2020 Solo Fastracks ~pg 56.

The only other option for a modded M2 is XSA, although it isn't included at Nats (yet).

Amazing how the OP is like a kid trying to cram a square peg into a round hole. Some cars don't go to classes you think they should fit into, and some modifications are just not permitted for certain prep thresholds. Either prep your car to the class you want to run in or compete in a class which is less favorable and just live with it.
