I tried to go without CarPlay for a couple of months but missed one thing in particular: For long drives I use it for Waze. $300 is cheaper than the speeding tickets + insurance increases + lost time at the side of the road. If you want CarPlay, they will want to charge you for it. If you put value to it, put some money into it. If you don't value it, then don't.

Stuff like this makes me feel so old...I can't imagine this being a deal breaker.
BMW already has arguably the best nav system in the industry. You can connect any phone via USB or bluetooth. What a ridiculous thing to be upset over. "But I can't live without my apps!" f'n A. Just drive. |

Not buying one of the best cars on the road because it doesn't have CarPlay is one of the most absurd things I've ever read.
Why deny yourself all the other experiences the car has to offer? It's like turning down a night in bed with your favorite model because she didn't paint her toenails.

BMW M cars for for driving. I would be more upset about the M235i Gran Coupe having a heads up display and we don’t.

This is a serious post? Or more a satirical funny one to distract us from COVID-19? Bravo either way.

Ya Porsche is a nightmare, they will nickel and dime you on EVERYTHING... even the paper floor mats the service dept uses is an extra charge add on. Then even if you show up with cash in hand they still act like they dont want to sell the car.

It is all relative and variable. The Porsche dealer near me has treated me like a king every time I've gone there, even in shorts and tennis shoes. Not that I go there often, just a few times over the last few years. Very approachable and nice folk who seem to LOVE the cars they sell. The nearest Merc dealer doesn't want to sell cars to anyone under 65, though. I actually got a "if you can afford it, you don't really need to test drive it" line from them once over a C63...and the guy saw me drive up in my M2.

I have a Note10+ (Android) and don't have Android Auto in my M2C. Love how I can at least still connect to Spotify on it, and I bought a phone holder to place my phone in so I can use Google Maps if I need it. Lack of CarPlay or AA doesn't detract from the entire point of this car. (Funny thing is I think I HAVE CarPlay on my car, but I don't own an iPhone, lol.) |

Well, there's apparently at least one "$60 phone" that won't connect (see page one).

Thankfully, if I ever really want a Merc, there's a nicer dealership about 30 miles from here. |

If I were buying a daily I'd want android auto.
It wouldn't be a deal breaker but important. I've looked @ manufacturer infotainment as more of a detriment than an asset. The BMW system is really good but like all others will be outdated and begging for features almost immediately. I can see ota updates resolving some of this, but I'm not hopeful. What has given me pause about BMW: Due to a stop sale there was a three week wait between the day I was standing in the dealership to take delivery and the actual delivery. Currently the dealer has had the car for 3+ weeks fixing the instrument cluster. |

I at one point held off purchasing an SUV because it did not include Apple CarPlay (ACP) in 2016. The following year they did provide for the inclusion of ACP for free and we purchased this new vehicle (not a BMW). I look at ACP more as a safety/convenience item. It was important to me to be able to safely utilize certain aspects of my phone while in the vehicle. This new vehicle was our family/travel vehicle. So yes, ACP can be important to some people, to the point of adjusting our planned purchase.
Now fast forward to my purchase of my 18' M2 LCI. Now I have to tell you, to had to pay $300 for ACP did in fact "piss me off" but did not deter me from the purchase, although a big believer in AWD and the dearth of xDrive was a bigger hurdle to the purchase, but that too I over looked for the purchase. Although the ability to get a manual transmission WOULD have been a deal breaker. More on the AWD issue maybe in another post sometime. ACP, especially wireless ACP is a god send in my M2! I use it a great deal and appreciate the enhanced safety for using your phone and the various "allowable" apps. I am sure if and when Android is brought in to the BMW accessories (maybe it already is) will be a big benefit to owners. You see, although the M2 is a great track car, I believe you will find not all (in fact many) people track their M2's. My M2 is more of a sunny weekend car that is driven in a spirited manner during its use. My 11' 335xi MT is my daily driver. My M2 is the first purchase since 1995 that was not AWD. Not having ACP in my 335 and my really fun car (95' Eclipse GSX MT AWD trackable car) is a little frustrating, although when I drive my GSX, I am rarely in a need for my iPhone apps. So keep in mind, those who purchase the M2 for non-track purposes help keep cars like the M2 available by way of purchasing power, or BMW would not offer such a track-friendly car. So say what you want about ACP, but many people like, use and is some cases actually impact their purchase decisions. And I am really not happy that I paid the $300 for ACP, and NOW they don't charge for it. It was ridiculous they charged in the first place and truefully, I believe those who had to pay should be reimbursed (no, I am not holding my breath for that)! Just MHO.

After having BMWs, I can't stand getting in my Ford truck and having to actually plug my iPhone in for apple car play. The wifi idea is brilliant.
