That last one in the list is telling. M2 has slightly more agility and lightness. M2C has a little more brute force.

the more telling circuits would be the ones with not many long straight aways, with more challenging twists. for example: circuit de nevers magny-cours france Has one fairly long straight away, with some good tight turns and some nice apexes, where agility needs to come out, and in this one, it is almost a 4 sec differential on a fairly short track Sachsenring Circuit again, similar to magny-cours, a fairly short circuit with really good turns where the car's chassis needs to shine, with only one straight away in the middle of circuit... again, here the difference is 2 secs. Both cars do superb on short tracks, specially where there isn't big/long straight aways, and with those tracks with longer straights (VIR, etc), the power difference starts to show.

Its a shame BMW did not upgrade the small intercooler thats standard with the regular N55 for the M2 application.
I feel the power dropping lap after lap.

If you just drive it on the street I wouldn't because you will take a very substantial financial hit on depreciation. I would then hold out and wait for the G87 M2. |

If the question is should you upgrade from the M2 to the M2C just for better lap times, I think you could spend far less money and make the M2 on par with the out of the box M2C, even without touching the tune. It all depends what your specific goals are.

I recently sold my LCI M2 and put in an order for the M2C after driving the C for a few days. More than track times alone, the driving experience and power delivery is completely different. I had only 2 complaints about my M2, which were the underwhelming N55 engine, and the dct transmission. N55 in the M2 has terrible top end and tuning potential. It also heat soaks pretty badly in CA summer, making it feel even slower. DCT while great at the track is not so great at stop and go and low speed driving. Other than that, the M2 was a great car. The detuned S55 in the C feels very linear in power delivery and pulls like a train all the way to 7500 revs. It is night and day from the N55, and that's before doing any mods. Also, the 6mt while not as good of a box as a honda, mazda, or a porsche unit, is miles more fun and engaging than the dct. So if i were you, I would determine what car feels better to drive and start from there instead of shaving seconds here and there at the track.

I don’t blame you, they do look cool. And in stock form they will fade in 8 laps va 3 laps, but in terms of longevity, race fluid and track pads are the great equalizer. I’m sure with those upgrades the 2NH kit stops a little bit better, but like you said 30lbs of unsparing, rotating weight is a huge penalty for that little bit of performance.

Yeah, I’m actually going back to 18s from 19s for the track.
You can get a lot more rubber with a lot more choices and better staggered setups with 18s, and it’s lighter = more speed! Last edited by ZM2; 03-10-2020 at 09:02 PM.. |

All things remaining equal (driver and tires), M2C will be materially faster around a lap. It has a lot stronger pull once you're over 100mph, where the OG M2 starts to struggle, relatively. Having said that, a competent and experienced driver will carry more speed through a turn and get on the gas earlier than an average HPDE driver in the M2C and will blow by it.
