Remove Silver trim pieces from steering whe

How hard is it to remove the two silver trim pieces on each side of the steering wheel that go around the “mouse wheels”?

The button pods are pretty easy to get to: just remove the airbag and you'll see a couple of torx screws. The problem will be that the button pods are all 1 piece. Are you looking to paint the silver parts or something?

If you can pop the pods apart you may snap off some tabs but glue could fix that. The actual button mechanics are likely simple and breakproof (silicone embedded contacts) but those mouse wheels may be a bit trickier.

Mess with one of them and see what happens. Worst case you have to order a new one. They're not super expensive so the world won't end if you wreck one.

What are you trying to do?

I’m having the silver trim piece painted but I think it might look weird with the silver pieces still in there. Thanks for the info.
