Picked up a new '18 last week. May or may not bring to Nats as I have a co-drive offered already, but looking forward to a full 2019 season.

I've had two shops succeed where other shops have failed. Generally, they have the newest top of the line Hunter tire mounting machine, let the tires heat some in the sun if they can, and mount with the wheel upside down from the normal mounting position to get the tire to seat into the bead. Each time, one side took much longer than the other.

Excited to join the M2 crew as of Saturday. Trying to be patient and break-in the car properly before I take it to any events, but I've found some in the next month or so. Happy to find a place to share thoughts and progress on setup but I'm surprised at the lack of available aftermarket wheels in the allowable diameter/width/offset for B Street. I was really hoping to try a double-staggered setup with 18x9 fronts and 19x10 rears with 275/35/18 up front and 305/30/19 rears to eliminate rubbing in the front and give as much rubber as possible to put power down. Doesn't seem like there is a single wheel that would allow that setup. I might just run a second pair of OEM 437M rears and aftermarket fronts at events.

I'm curious if anyone's tried running D-Force LTW5 on their F87 yet? They have high offset 18x9 +41 and 18x10 +43, which would work with spacers. And they're extremely light (18/19lbs). I know they're run on most other models but I'm not sure if there's a reason why they're not a top choice?

Looks like the top M2 was running 18" Apex EC7 at Nationals based on the below picture (on the right):

Looks like the top M2 was running 18" Apex EC7 at Nationals based on the below picture:
No offense, but 1) Those don’t look like EC-7s; and 2) The BS champ was in a 1M, although the 2nd place M2 was close.

I’ve been running the EC-7s in BS-legal offsets on my ‘17, so I know those fit. The thing to keep in mind is that there is more to it than just the barrel inner diameter. The back side of the spokes has to clear the front calipers. That’s why the 18” EC-7s fit while the 18” ARC-8s do not.

Just to make sure, you're looking at the car on the right in the picture because that's the guy we're both referring to. Rowse absolutely flew in the dry on day 2 Nats for 2nd and won the PRO finale over the 1M the week prior. My buddy races in the C5 FRC that won several tour events so I've been following the group. I'm trying to hunt down some setup advice for the M2 so I can give him a run for the local championship next year.

I thought those were EC7s but I've just been looking at pictures. You're obviously going to be better at recognizing what they are. Definitely understand the barrel clearance issues so that's what I'm looking for. Saw they've been run on an M235i, not sure how the M2's brakes compare...

I have leftover D force rims from my FS M3 days. I've test fitted them and the barrel clears, but barely. I have not actually run them on the street yet since I didn't realize I couldn't use the extended bolts from my M3 to make my spacers work. BMW and their infinite wisdom....

M2's brakes are 380mm front, M235i are 340mm.

My bad. I was looking at the 1M, not the M2. The wheels on the M2 definitely look like EC7s. That’s what I’ve been running on my ‘17 M2. Too bad they won’t fit on my M2C.

I'm looking for a 2nd wheel set for the M2C. Apex makes a 9x19 wheel with ET22 for the front which just fits within the offset allowance for street class. However, for the rear they have no fitment. The stock size is 10x19 with ET40.

I guess I'm going to have to go with an F8x BMW wheel set, but they sure are pricey...like the 763Ms.

I assume that the M2C will be A-street when it gets classed for 2019?

As for tires, the only choice is RE71R, and I guess 255/35 and 275/35-19. They do also have a 265/35 and 285/35, but I'm guessing the diameter of those is too large and would rub. I wish they made this tire in 275/30-19 and 295/30-19.

Yeah, OEM wheels seem like the only option right now, but expect to pay close to $1k/wheel.

That said, Apex may have something for us down the road. You might want to keep an eye on this thread:

https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1439522

My short-term solution may be to run AX tires on my 788s, and set the Michelins aside for now.

That’s my guess as well. I checked the recent Fastracks last night, and found no mention of the M2C. I think it’s still too new. Now might be the time to drop an email to SAC if you have any thoughts on the subject. Considering that the base M2 came within a cat’s whisker of taking first place in BS at nats this year, I don’t think the M2C will end up in BS.

That’s the dilemma. Check this thread for guidance on that front:

It is kind of a bummer that Bridgestone doesn’t make the RE-71R in a 30-profile 19. The only tire even worth considering in the sizes you mention is the PS4S.

It's my understanding that as of Nationals they were still debating where to put the M2CS. I'm hoping that it isn't in BS, but we wont know where it is until they come out with the info. I know there are other changes to BS coming as well, so only time will tell.

Good info on the wheels, thanks! I'll play around stock the next month then prep in the offseason.

Looking at exhausts, I like the way the Dinan axleback sounds with the stock resonator in Sport. It seems like that is essentially a 3.25" straight pipe when the valve is open and only muffled when the valve is closed.

In Street we can remove mufflers etc and have multiple exit locations reduced to one but it has to exit in a stock location. I'm considering running something like this to get the aggressive tone and small HP/TQ gains from a high-flow design. Still, I think the biggest gain would be removing the gargantuan muffler from the car.

Basically it would be the Dinan setup without the muffled Comfort setting. What do you guys think?

Updated... Already got a quick/friendly response from Dinan's customer service. Won't be feasible until they move the manufacturing in-house. Will be easy to have a shop fabricate something similar, just won't look as nice as this.

They are going to be making an SM-10 in 10x19 ET33 with rough estimate of "early-to-mid" 2019 - just got a reply from them.

Hmmm. Don’t really want to wait thar long to mount some stickier rubber. I’m either going to put some RE-71Rs on my 788s, or maybe get a set of 437s to use as track wheels.

BTW, I finally got to autox my M2C for the first time yesterday. Initial impressions: very throttle steery.

Nice. Sort of implies those 305 RE71Rs might be useful out back.

I had the M2C on the Michelin proving grounds 1/2 mile skid pad this past Saturday -- did a write up here.

Very much so. I think the PSS 265s were a bit overwhelmed.

Bad news bears on the d-force front - the 18's are about 1mm too small inner barrel diameter. I could probably let them "clearance" themselves, but that's probably a bad idea. On to plan B.

Weirdly enough, my 18" cheap-o tire rack winter wheels fit without an issue.

Great write up! Thank you Chuck. I'm coming out of a 14 Z51 Stingray, and just put a deposit down on a allocation for the M2C. Your wet pad review has helped put me at ease on the EPS.

Danke!

I suppose we should break off the M2C autox discussion into a separate thread (also I noticed that the M2C isn't even classified in the latest 2019 draft rules), but I just heard back from Apex about the planned 10x19 SM-10 ET33, and all they would say is: "We don't have a set date for that size just yet, although we hope to make progress on it in the first half of the year."

So for now I've only really seen a few options for 19" legal wheel sets that will clear the front brakes: stock 788M, 763M (right at $3k shipped/discounted from Sun Motor Cars BMW), 437M, and OZ Hyper GT HLT. The OZ's are the cheapest ($2023/set and similar lighter weight to 763M) while the 788 and 437 might be able to be found used (one set of 788s sold for $1550 on the board here, but most are asking a lot more).

The current Apex SM-10 9"x19" ET30 supposedly works up front, but as of now, no rear 10" option is available.

So what's everyone's thoughts on running a square setup? I am running RE71 255 and 275/35/19. Car rotates great but i've spun out a few times due to heavy throttle inputs, DSC off of course.

What are peoples thoughts on buying a front set of Apex EC7 in 18x9 and running staggered wheel sizes, Apex 18x9 front with 275/35/18 and stock rear with 275/35/19?
What's the benefit of a more square setup? Would that reduce oversteer or increase it?

What's the intended usage - track or autocross? I found running my '17 M2 on square 265/35-18 RE-71s with 18x9F/18x10R EC-7s using stock offsets, I had to run a few PSI more in the rear to get the car to rotate.

With my M2C running 255/35-19F & 275/35-19R RE-71s on stock rims, it rotates nicely with equal pressures front and rear.

My 2 cents is that people get a bit preoccupied with running a square tire setup. I'm not convinced its necessary. It's something of a moot point if one has to run 19's anyway. The height of the front tires effectively limits how wide you can go.

Intended use is autocross with smaller and lower speed courses. I'm looking for a more planted feel. I feel like my rear end gets away from me too easily when I have DSC off completely. Looking for more confidence in grip which may come from wider fronts/more understeer. The car does rotate well with 255/275
