CF Hood Vent Trim

Has anyone been able to tell if this is easily removed? My PPF installer needs to know. I heard it (vent trim) scratches easily and would like it wrapped.

I've heard the same regarding scratches whereby one forum member has used microfiber cloth and noted scratches.

I'm pretty sure medphysdave and ptgltw have had their hood vents removed

You should be able to find references to these in the thread below

Easily removable but not easily wrapped. Perhaps you can do it in many pieces or just the main areas that get wiped with a cloth. I would remove it, so your PPF under and then coat it with some ceramic coating.

Yes - a couple of clips. Easily removed and replaced by someone competent.

A closer view of said part. It's going to very difficult to wrap. We just put some bomb proof ceramic coating on it and did a few hail mary's.

And for anyone really paranoid, guess you can buy a replacement and keep somewhere safe.

Should be one of these part numbers:

Grate, hood
Part Number: 51768081152
$133.52

Screen insert, hood
Part Number: 41618081166
$61.40

Easy to remove, did it 2 days ago. Way easier than the grill.

For anyone looking into this, the correct part number is 41618081166 for the glossy black vent trim.

Mine is all scratched up from factory (maybe from dealer prep?), so I'm ordering 2 new replacements. They're on the cheaper side of BMW bits. 'Made in China' too, says mine.

How can I remove this plastic cover? For the longest time after I installed my exhaust I was getting a nasty rattle. I thought it was the passenger foot well until I got out of the car on startup and realized it's coming from the hood. I put my fingers thru the vent and pressed against the plastic grill and voila no more noise. Soon as I let go it comes back. You can't really see the plastic grill when looking thru the vent from the outside. I didn't wanna pull too hard on the tabs to avoid breaking it but was curious if anyone has suggestions on how to remove it. I want to apply some felt tape all along the edges and see if it fixes the noise.

Also, what's the downside of just leaving this screen off altogether? Is it to prevent water from seeping thru?
