M2cs as the value play vs G87 M2

Was not so long ago that many of us were bitching about the $85K USD price of the M2cs.

Well, who would have thought after reviewing the G87 M2 Price List and options that our M2cs is and will remain the better value???

That G87 Price List is ridiculous

To spec it out pretty close, but not close enough, the new M2 is pushing $75k

I drove both the G series 3 and 4 and the F series M2 comp. Preferred the 3 series of those 3. Hopped back in the CS and it reiterated just how tight the CS. Granted it hasn't been beat on for thousands of miles, but the G cars feel a lot looser than I would have expected.

The F series CS is a real winner. The added 400lbs on the G87 will not go unnoticed.

Interesting data point on the CCB. Performance center said they last 5x longer than iron setup. The track is short, which may give way to lower max temps that wear out discs.

CS will hold value much better

previous generation comp/cs cars usually hold better than the new generation base model. look at what e92 comp cars are going for compared to base 2015 M4s.

the new car will be easier to finance, lease, etc. and will have more tech.

Garage List
"more tech"

This is one of many reasons I love the F87 in all its forms. iDrive 6 is peak for me. It does everything I could possibly want, and does it all well, without having to present it to me on humongous tacked-on screen on stilts with a zillion icons, embedded climate controls, unintuitive menus, etc. Yeah I wish the H/K system in the F87 was better, and is probably better on the G platform, but other than that little detail, there's NOTHING about iDrive 8 that appeals to me in the least. I don't want an animated video game instrument cluster with no option for a more readable setup - which they could easily do in software. I don't want over-the-air software updates that break shit as often as they "improve" anything.

Probably, but with E92 and E46, comps are LCI cars. When you compare a non-ZCP LCI to a ZCP LCI the price delta is small. The ZCPs of those cars also have the better looking wheels. With G87, the comp is likely to come pre-LCI.

Agreed 1000%

I can't stand the new interior dash with the mega screen….it looks so out of place on an ICE car….ok, it works in an EV…but, not here.

I'm old school and just think the F87 dash just looks so much better.

Hello;

I am new to this side of the forums, and I am intrigued about the “value” question. I am just becoming aware of the M2 platform and it seems to be attractive as all cars are getting bigger and bigger.

How is the F87 platform represents a better value in your opinions? Obviously, I am asking this from the perspective of a potential buyer. Although the F87 CS checks all of the boxes for me, its used prices are very unattractive. Comparatively a brand new G87 base looks to be a bargain to me. I am sure I am missing something; is it the weight increase, or something else? Probably a combination of things, but I am missing it.

Thank you.

My point for this thread was basically that while initially so many of us thought the M2cs with a $85k price tag was very steep considering the changes from the M2 Competition.

Well, now to get a G87 M2 spec'd out with the Carbon roof and some goodies will easily take you to $75k+

I believe that the M2cs is a unique and special variant and so the value in that at $85k seems greater than a G87 M2 which is just a base model at $75k.

There will be other variants for sure in the future. However, just comparing it to this base M2 there is no question the F87 M2cs is the better value.

just look at historic trends on bmw m cars, especially limited M cars. if you had a time machine and could go back to 2014 and either A) buy a limerock/frozen M3 or B) put your order in for a new base f80 for 70-75k.. what would you pick ? The value play is certainly the limited edition lime rock or frozen edition. because they are rare.
