Unladen Weights
  • M440i (w/ZF AT) - 1,695 kg / 3,737 lbs
  • G82 M4 - 1,700 kg / 3,748 lbs
  • G82 M4 Comp (w/ZF AT) - 1,725 kg / 3,803 lbs
  • G42 - M240i (w/ZF AT) - 1,690 kg / 3,726 lbs
The G82 M4 MT is nearly identical in weight to the G42 M440i. They're only 5 kg or 11 lbs apart. A good guestimate for the G87 MT would be roughly the same weight as the G42 M240i or the G80 M4. Add 25 kg / 55 lbs to that if it comes with the ZF AT.
3800 is a porker, but you know what they say, the new M2 is now the M4, and the M3 is now the M5.

I do think 3800 lbs with the S58 will be a deadly combination with or without AWD (which might be 3900).

No doubt the S58 on the CLAR platform with the shorter wheelbase of the G87 will be a blast, nonetheless the weight gain is disappointing. That said the new M3/4, as heavy as they are (and as ugly ), grip and handle like they're on rails. Part of that recipe is the chassis of the CLAR platform, but BMW also heavily revised the G generations suspension (G87 will finally come with adaptive dampers ), revised e-Diff and steering. I'd put $$$ on the G87 handling more like an M2 CS than an M2c.

This is great perspective, I'm looking forward to the CLAR platform including adaptive dampers and i'm sure the chassis will improve. If it handles like a M2CS which also had dampers, and will have way more power from the S58 this might be one of the greatest M cars.

HUD is optional on the G42 2er.

So we may expect the same for the G87 M2.

Wishing that the G87 M2 would feature the approx. 63 liter (approx. 16.64 US gallons) fuel tank capacity of the E46 M3.

Unfortunately, that won't happen. If we consider the G42 2er as indicative, expect yet another approx. 52 liter (approx. 13.74 US gallons) fuel tank capacity (same as F87 M2).

Although it is impressive that the G87 M2 could have upwards of 480 horsepower, it will most likely weigh 200 pounds more than the F87 M2 and most likely be around 3,800 pounds.

Seriously. What were they thinking? Save weight? Guess what, add less fuel if weight is a concern. Fortunately I came from a car with fairly equal range. It's only when I'm in my wife's x5 that I have capacity envy
