I just read everything all the way through, what a hell of an adventure.
I'm originally from Thailand but have been in the States for a minute. Always curious what it would be like if I ever move back home and try to bring all the M's over. Keep the updates coming!

Alignment
Suspension noises were annoying the snot out of me so went in for an alignment - glad I did, as my camber plates were pretty off on both sides. Tightening everything up got rid of 90% of the pops and rattles I was experiencing, which convinced me I'll get an alignment every quarter or so.
The shop I found was pretty decent, they had upstairs seating and you could look out over the work bay. [/url] They also have a couple of track M2C's. Also I recently found out that I have no warranty anymore. BMW Korea only honors the US warranty for 24 months, so that expired in September. Which is unfortunate, since I now have a rattle / noise which occurs whenever I'm between 800-1100 RPM. I've traced it to one of the pulleys in the front, it's either the AC, alternator, or idler tensioner pulley. Hoping for the tensioner. I'll try to get that checked out tomorrow - after which my car should be pretty solid. I have a track day scheduled for Dec 6th, pretty excited for that! In other news, something else is coming in about a week or so. Ordered back in July.

That matte black M2 is actually an OG . Love the matte black BBS RIA it has, I've been thinking of changing the color of my RIAS from diamond black to satin/matte black. |

Yup it is, although they had a few M2C's in the work bay that I didn't get a pic of. Apparently the guy just bought three M2CS's, one to "study", one for track, and one for... Street or something like that.

6 Dec Track Day
6 Dec Track Day
Last weekend I joined M Club Korea for their quarterly track day. This time they rented out the BMW Driving Center for the entire day for us to use. We were grouped into 6 groups of about 8 cars each and throughout the day took turns driving several of the courses they have there, such as gymkhana, skid pad, understeer, track driving (including open track sessions), and defensive driving techniques - all in our own cars. There was one portion where we could drive some SUV's on track (X3, X4, X5, X6) and SUV's are nice but I like driving the M2 on track better. I was blown away with how organized the event was, not to mention how much fun I had! Thankfully it happened the day it did, as Korea went to "level 2.5" social distancing the next day which would have kept us from having the event. So glad it held off until then. Some pics taken during a couple of the events: In short, an extremely fun event - glad to get out on the track - and I learned a lot too. It's now winter here (snowed yesterday) so I'm hoping to do at least 2 winter track days but we'll see. Then full force into spring! For the car, it performed great. I just passed 40k KM's so it's time for some service. I am planning on the following: Air filters (engine and cabin) - have some Eventuri filters coming Diff fluid Transmission fluid Spark plugs (probably not entirely necessary... but why not) Control Arm replacement - getting more and more pops from these while driving at slow speeds. Crappy roads + stiff suspension + lowered = these are on their way out. Rebound adjustment (need to soften it a bit) Alignment Can't think of anything else... Just replaced my oil ~1k ago so don't need to do that.

You wish your carwash was this cool
On another note, a new carwash opened up about a KM from my apartment and I gotta say, this has completely changed my winter car washes from here on out. It's approx. $15 per hour and you reserve your space/time on an app. It's a garage that is enclosed, has a heater, and during your appointment it's unlimited use of the pressure washer, foam cannon, air, vacuum, and the space has an air conditioner / heater for those extra hot or cold days. Did I mention the heater?? Best part? It's open 24 hours.

New Car in the Family
Last update for now is our family now has another member, a 2021 M340i xDrive in Alpine White / Shadowline pkg. It's great because my wife and I are now matchy-matchy. We ordered this car after coming back to Korea in July. August was the factory shutdown in Munich due to i4 retooling, and US / non-euro spec models are only made during one week of every month so we got pushed to first week of October for the build. Everything after that went quickly - was on a boat by the 12th, and then the boat took forever to get here and arrived November 24th (42 days) after stopping in Spain, Singapore, Hong Kong, Shanghai, and Beijing before reaching Korea. Then one week for customs and 5 days for BMW VPC and then we had the car December 7th - 5 months after ordering. The positive part is that it's a German build. We were crazy enough to drive to the port to see the boat that I had been meticulously tracking every day for 42 days. After having the car for one day, we sent it off to get paint correction, PPF, ceramic coating, and a dashcam install. All done! Now tint is scheduled for this week and then the 340i will be complete! Might get an M performance exhaust put on after winter is over but we'll see.

Nice to finally see the man behind the car! I know I'm late to the build thread, but I look forward to catching you on Humphreys. I'm in the MCB F10 M5 that's constantly driving between the USFK HQ and DSC. I'll send you a PM with my info, it would be great to link up and talk shop!

As mentioned above we've been getting more snow than in any year I remember, thus the roads are slippery, salty, dirty, sandy, all of the above.
Really regret not getting winter tires - however I know how this works - the millisecond I get winter tires, spring will come. Anyway with all the crud my wife and I rented an indoor wash bay for two hours to wash both cars last night. I love the unlimited use of the foam gun!

Holy Moly! Just read through all of your posts and some of your Blog, very fascinating. I'm pretty regretful that I did not have the gumption to travel more in my youth. I went to Korea in 1998 for 3 months. Beautiful country, customs, and traditions but I disliked the Pop culture that was taking over Korea at the time. I'm pretty sure it's worse now. What do you do for work there? Looking to retire in a couple of years, me and the missus are looking to be expats and were thinking of Thailand because of the taxes (she is Thai and I am Korean). Maybe Korea (more developed) would be a better option depending on out of country pension taxes.

Personally I would choose a country with good healthcare / benefits - Korea is top notch in that regard, affordable, easy access, etc. Although I'm not sure I'd retire here. We likely won't retire in the US either so it'll be interesting what we end up doing in ~35 years LOL

What's up everyone.
Performed some maintenance at 42k KM's last week. I'm in a crappy corner where I am no longer under warranty (expired in September) or maintenance from BMW over here in Korea but if I was in the states I would be - oh well. Maintenance done: Eventuri Panel filter BMW cabin air filter Diff fluid - Motul Spark plugs - Bosch OEM replacement So I replaced the intake filter with an Eventuri OEM replacement filter - GREAT part, both high in quality and performance. As nice as it would be to have the shiny CF intake, stock is good enough for me. Spark plugs might seem early but honestly it made a huge difference so I'm glad I did it. Upcoming events: I have a half-day track day this Friday with BMW. It's free for owners and held every Friday, so why not? It's been really cold and freezing for the past three months or so, so hopefully it'll warm up Friday for a decent track day. My wife is also joining me in her M340i so we'll see how that handles. After that I'm waiting until late March to try out another local track that's much bigger, but again waiting for weather to get better before I go. They're open during the winter but all I see is people crashing into each other during the winter months so I'll sit that one out. Upcoming parts: I have some orders coming in from Turner, EAS, and Schirmer. Two of the three have already shipped and the third should ship this week - expect to put everything on at the same time in about two weeks or so - I'm calling it my "phase II" of the build and it'll make the car look significantly different. Keep your eyes peeled for the update! Old Photos M Club Korea sent out some photos from the last track day I attended, thought I'd go ahead and share here.

Phase II
M2C + M340i Track Day
I talked my wife into doing a track day with me! The BMW Driving Center does free track days for BMW owners every Friday - but it's limited slots available so it gets pretty competitive to get a spot. But the upside is it's only 8 cars on track at a time! The downside was that it was 0C at the track - but the sun was shining at least. It took about 3 laps to get the cars tires up to temp, but there were some spots in the S's that the rear end was just more squirrely than I was comfortable with so it definitely wasn't a balls-to-the-wall track day. Either way it was still a lot of fun. I did two 25 minute sessions and my wife did one session. She felt a little overwhelmed, but still had a great time. Need to work on her cornering but she blasts out of turns like a champ!
